AI need to make a giant ball cake that serves roughly 25 people. I don't even know where to begin with this cake. Wilton has a ball mold for its 6 inches. What size round cake pan should I buy to make this cake? I'm not good at carving cakes as of yet so I wanted to be on the safe side and use cake pans. Or should I try to carve the cake?

I'd do a half ball and make the bottom out of styrofoam. I've done full ball shapes before but if you're new to carving I don't know if that would be the first project to start with! You can get the half ball shape, anchor it to the cake board, and put a board with the cake on it, then carve the top part to match the bottom.

AThe wilton ball pan is pretty easy to use. It serves 12. You can stack it on top of another cake (with supports--dowels/straws and cardboard) to make up the additional servings. If you go the carving route, you are likely to waste a lot and spend a lot of frustration. Do you have a bowl you could bake in to make a larger ball? Stainless steel or Pyrex bowl?

ANo but I will have to buy one. What size bowl should I buy? The customer doesn't want another cake underneath. The only want the ball standing alone as the cake.
