AI am making a giant cupcake to go on the top of a cupcake tower, but I cant quite work out how big a stand for my friend to buy? We need a tower about the size of the one in this photo I think but we dont know how big the top part needs to be and if perspex ones are strong enough? if it's a wilton cupcake cake, which it looks like, then the base is approx 8 inches.

only the vendor can tell you that. you need to look at the specifications or call the vendor. every stand is different and some can be assembled in a variety of ways, as well.

AThe vendor said to me to tell them what to get! I'll ask my local cake raft shop I think :)

Don't get perspex, get acrylic, perspex is too bendy when you get to the bigger sizes and need to load the cupcakes on.

This stand would probably work for you: http://www.classikool.com/cake-stands-toppers-1/6-tier-acrylic-cup-cake-stand.html The top plate is 7", and I think the large cupcakes have a 5" or 6" base, not an 8". I've only ever made one and I borrowed the tin so I can't be sure, but I don't recall it being as large as 8".
