Hi, I'd like some feedback about insurance policies for shared kitchens for cake bakers. (I’ve only found posts about shared kitchen users.)

I told my insurance company that I’m starting a shared cake baking & decorating studio (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) where members use shared facilities on an hourly basis. They classified me as a bakery and quoted $1,000-1,500/yr (contents: $50-100K, liability: $5 million). Each member is required to have their own separate liability insurance (plus business license, health cert, etc).

Does this make sense?
I ask because an owner, elsewhere in Ontario, told me that the high cost of insurance for shared kitchens was one reason there are so few of them.

What type of insurance coverage is typically required for: 1) the shared kitchen, 2) the client renting the shared kitchen? Are there any unusual clauses that might typically be overlooked?

Thanks for your help :D

Val
