need help with wedding cupcakes and traveling with them?

So im just a home baker, my best girlfriend got ahold of me and wants me to do her wedding cupcake cake, I have a couple questions, most of my baking is for family and friends that are local. My friends wedding is end of july, and at least a 4 to 5 hour drive for us. Now here is my question what would be a good frosting to use and i was thinking maybe i should freeze them before and stack them in those hot or cold bags for the travel. Or would it better just freeze the cupcakes the week before premake the frosting the night before we head out and fridge it and just pipe before set up. The count is 150, other than the tiedye color theme with pink frosting flavors are up to me. Please any advise would be helpful
Oh i live in washington, and weather here is either mild 70 to warm 80s 90s, and the travel destionation is in oregon, so about the same

I've never had that far of a drive but for deliveries I like to have my cakes finished the day before so they can get nice and cold in the fridge overnight-it makes stacking and traveling much easier.

How many cupcakes are you making? Is the reception outside?

The last count we talked about was 150 cupcakes, and when i asked ber about location it sounds like it will be outside.

Hi! new to this forum, but I totally did this for my grandparent's anniversary! We did 5 flavors , 3 dozen each. I deep froze them in my deep freeze in Ziploc bags and drove over 6 hours with them in coolers. even not in a cooler might work. but by the time I got to the party venue, they were half or so thawed. it worked perfect. I set them out on counters and opened all of the bags. we mixed up our batches of different frostings and started decorating! ( they were thawed by then) . tasted amazing!!!! good luck!

I made 300 cupcakes for a wedding this past summer. I used shallow plastic tote boxes() like you could slide under a bed), and a really large cake box, probably the size used for a full size cake, that someone just happen to save for me from another use. My husband bought sheets of styrafoam from Menards and then we cut to fit the bottom of the totes. I pushed tooth picks into the styrofoam and then each decorated cupcake went onto a toothpick. Then I just covered them with the lid for the tote box. It worked AMAZING!! Those cupcakes will not and can not move in a little bit! I was just very careful that when the cupcakes were pulled off to be set up that there was not a tooth pick stuck in any of them.

What a brilliant idea wtagrl! That's what I worry about when transporting them in a large flag box like that, especially with the large cupcakes. The clear plastic containers for cupcakes can get too expensive to use all the time.

I love this website and all the neat tricks I have learned. I will definetly use this in the future.
