yeah except for you posting on the world wide web that you did it--so much for confidentiality

True...personally I don't care about my confidentiality in this case, that info was more for anyone else who decides to report suspected infringement.

Nope.

--where do you draw the line of righteousness

For me, you've crossed the line when you are aware that what you're doing is wrong but you keep doing it and make up excuses or try to circumvent the law. But that's not really relevant here.

Am I going to get dobbed in now too? Lol hope not I am trying to do the right thing here, maybe I shouldn't have bothered posting in here for advice, this was all supposed to be over how to deal with an unhappy customer and now it seems I am getting slammed?

Just because something says "copyright free" it's not safe to assume that it is in the public domain, unless the statement appeared on the copyright owner's web site.

so you contacted them and gave them a heads up that you consider what they're doing is wrong and advised them of the truth as you know it--

i'm asking if you gave them a chance-- yes or no --

please don't deflect on go off on a tangent

I come here for help, and all I do is get slammed - how about a bit of friendly advice and not attack people? Jason_Kraft thanks again for your advice and I have been emailing corporations how to go about getting licence for images and things, wonder how these other companies that sell t-shirts and things get their licences? :)

Yep, I notified Disney of suspected copyright infringement. Normally I wouldn't bother, but they were tempting fate with their rationalization.

The notification process is confidential, so the suspected infringer doesn't know who turned them in, nor does the person who turned them in get any additional info about what happened to the suspected infringer.

Yes I got a 'heads up' as you like to call it because I did the right thing and researched it, I totally forgot that Minnie Mouse picture was there that you felt the need to have a look on my page on facebook and remind me......but I have gone through and deleted it all, I find it funny because they know they are doing the wrong thing, and choose to risk it! I however want to do the right thing which is WHY I posted in here for advice, not someone to stalk my wall and ask if I am going to get DOBBED IN!

ok yesterday I contacted disney, universal pictures, amc, fx networks, acdc, mattel, activision and the list goes on. I have taken down any photos that might be an infringment and I am going about the right way to try and get licences. Are you kidding me? Ok that is the end of this discussion I am doing everything the right way and now I am bored of this. If you don't have anything useful or helpful to say don't say anything at all.

i'm really glad you are doing all the right things that you learned here in the last 24 hours--that's really great and i'm perfectly serious--i'm very happy for you--i'd imagine some of the licensing rights are going to be outrageously expensive if you even get responses--i'm still waiting to hear back from some of mine i asked about years ago  ;)

i hope your business is a roaring success--no hard feelings i hope--best wishes--

I don't understand how those posts make your point? They sound like she is trying to understand the ins and outs of copyright laws, and do the right/legal thing.

Or maybe I just don't understand your point.

well louise you seem like you are doing the right thing by taking down anything that might be an infringement and contacting the companies to ask their permission to use their images or obtain licenses. I applaud you for doing the right thing. and K8Memphis, where do you get off picking on someone for trying to do the right thing? the people who knowingly use images and make no effort to get the rights to do so deserve your scorn and not people like louise who seem to be genuinely interested in doing the right thing.

thanks k8memphis sorry I got my back up a bit it just sounded like you were having a go at me when I was just trying to do the right thing here. I am just a little housewife in her little home trying to save up for IVF ( we been trying for years and I can't work due to my pain and health issues so I thought I would start a small home business) I have no idea about copyright things its all so confusing. We will see what these big companies say when they get back to me about licences :) thanks for your support jeronimo79 and scrumdiddlycakes :) I'll keep you all updated on my progress.

yes exactly--yesterday louise did not seem to know she was infringing--she learned about it--then she changed everything up--good for her--

then previous to that jason and louise got so happy about turning in the other company i nearly vomited--if louise got a chance to understand it better then let's let the other company get a chance to get it right before we laugh our heads off at their getting busted by disney

smh

I don't enjoy turning people in (and nowhere did I say I was "happy" about it)...I just do what I feel is the right thing to do as a citizen and let the relevant authorities know when someone is doing something wrong.

I understood your point... if one person deserves a chance before they get turned in then so should everyone...right?

I don't think anybody was getting 'slammed' by anyone here.

It is apparent that they are knowingly violating the law, otherwise they wouldn't be spewing that nonsense. You don't try to come up with sneaky ways to circumvent things, if you don't know it's wrong.

Their 'chance' has obviously come. However, if you are concerned they are innocently unaware, write them and let them know yourself.

I missed the bit about laughing though.

yep I took it down anyway to be safe :) thanks again for everyone's advice and help its much appreciated. It really annoys me that there are people on the internet just doing what they like and printing what they like. It some ways it sucks being responsible and proper but then I am glad I am or I would be in trouble. I've just seen about three different pages saying, you want an image, we will print it. I pretended to be a customer and private messaged a lady asking if she could print a disney photo, she said no worries. I said what about copyright and she said doesn't matter. I told her I would get back to her bahaha hope she gets in trouble!

this is why I laughed.....I asked her about copyright and she said it doesn't matter. That is why I laughed. I wouldn't of laughed if she had of said, ok I will check it out or good point I had better make sure its not copyrighted, she had a chance and she told me it didn't matter. This is why I laughed.

I apologise if I offended you in finding it laughable that I did ask her about copyright but she told me it didn't matter. So that's that, its done now. Move on....I don't think I'll be coming on here for advice anymore.. but thanks everyone who helped me I appreciate your kind words :)
