Need Inspiration For An Australian Themed Cake....

January 26th is Australia Day here in Oz. I am catching up with some friends for a BBQ, and want to make a suitably themed cake.
I am stuck for ideas.
Our national colors are green and gold - a hideous combination I want to steer clear of.
I would love to do the Sydney Opera House from RKT, but I think that is far beyond my skill level.
My other idea was to make a gumpaste coolibah tree, and create a billabong, and instead of a swagman, I could make a cute bunyip napping under the tree.
Please - any other ideas - throw them my way!

Golden syrup is not common in most of the US. I've read it is there.
There are very few marsupials in other parts of the world. Maybe a koala or kangaroo?
The most uniquely Australian musical instrument I can think of is the didgeridoo. I think it's fascinating and beautiful.

Drop bears I hadn't thought of. I could have one coming out of the coolabah tree onto the unsuspecting bunyip.
My other idea was to replicate the big banana, big pineapple and big prawn with RKT. But how to stop it from being tacky?

Hahaha this is a lot of fun to read - funny how the rest of the world views Good old Australia - drop bears and opals. I do like the idea of the Fly - especially this year, the rotten things are terrible! What about a flock of sheep getting rounded up by a kelpie on your cake.

Sorry - I don't know how to edit my post so I will have to add this as a new post, what about an outdoor toilet with red backs and snakes hanging out on it.

I believe a drop bear is a dangerous animal that drops out of a tree and onto the head of an unsuspecting person. Usually a tourist.
My father has suggested I make an Eski out of cake. I'm quite taken with this idea. The thongs are very well executed, but not exactly what I had in mind. The outdoor dunny is a great suggestion too.
What about a backyard with a cricket playing kangaroo. I can't believe the number of overseas tourists who think that kangaroos just wander around the street like stray dogs.

An Esky !! yep! NOT a chilly bin, NOT a cooler...... a fair dinkum Aussie Esky and don't fill it with that crap beer we save for tourists either.
LOL - scrumdiddly..... Aussie thong is the rubber kind.... although the plain old daggy ones are being phased out as the 'Havianna' brand takes hold.
We'd rather have the thin bit between our TOES than between our CHEEKS!! hahahahaha

So many wonderful ideas. Sadly, I am no experienced pro when it comes to cake decorating, and I am doubting my ability to actually pull any of these off.
(Pull them off. Hahahahaha! Oops. Apologies. I just went all Calvin Cunnington for a moment).
I want one of those drop bears for next Christmas. I am sure I could put it to good use here on the West Coast.
And YEP we eat kangaroos. It's mainly people from overseas that kick up a stink about us eating one of the animals on our national emblem. They reach plague proportions in some spots and you should hear the carry on (mainly from city folk who don't have to deal with the problems they can cause) when a cull is suggested. It would be much more sensible to just eat them.
