Quick question to all those who have made a baby bump cake. I plan on making one and I have purchased the Wilton Soccer Ball Pan and the Ball Pan. Do I use both halves of the soccer ball pan to make the belly. This is going to need to feed 15 people. Do I need to make a cake to go underneath it as well?

You only need to use one half of the pan for the belly. For just 15 people, i don't think you need to place a sheet cake underneath.

I've made 2 different belly cakes: one with the soccor ball pan (9" diameter) as the belly and the two halves of the 3D sports ball pan (6" diameter) as the boobs. This cake was easily 40 standard servings, without a sheet cake as the base, it was a monster. The second one i used one half of the sports ball pan (6" diameter) as the belly and two mini wonder mold (doll pan) cupcakes as the boobs. This one fed 12 baby shower guests with 4-6 servings leftover, but there was lots of other food. For both cakes I found that the proportion of the belly looked better if the dome was raised by adding a 2" round layer under it.

Thanks, I ended up using the soccer ball pan for the belly and the ball pan for the chest. I used a sheet pan underneath it for height. I turned out better than I thought. Thank you guys for your input.
