I was reading a thread about how to price a cheese cake and I started to wonder what it would cost to make a 9" spring form cheesecake. Here is what I came up

~~Cheesecake

Crust: cost=$0.91

¾ cup vanilla wafers(3oz) $2.50 for 12oz box= $0.75

2 tablespons melted butter $2.50for 16oz=$0.16

Filling $7.50

24oz cream cheese ($1 for 8oz block on sale) $3

5 eggs ($2.69 for 18 eggs) $0.75

16 oz sour cream $1.50

1 1/3 cup sugar ($3.99 for 10lb bag) $0.75

3 teaspons vanilla ($2.99 for 1oz bottle) $1.50

Total price $0.91(crust)+ $7.50(filling)=$8.41

This is based on a basic cheesecake recipe that I found online that is similar to the one I have made in the past.  Is this the way you bakers come up with the cost of your products?

You also have to account for any overhead costs and your time spent producing the product and then the markup.

You still need to decide how long the item will take to make - and put a value on your time and charge this out too.  You also need to be aware of other costs, like petrol to go shopping, delivery costs, and if you are cooking, gas and electric (although this version is probably uncooked??)  So just charging the cost of the ingredients has given you nothing for your time, expertise, nor overheads either.    Plus you should add in a mark up to make some profit on the deal too - unless you want to give away your product.  Good luck.   Kx

This is a baked cheese cake and I know you wouldn't sell it for just the price of ingredients I was just figuring out the cost of the ingredients that go into the cake. I doubt I would ever consider actually selling cakes or making them for people other than myself .
