Gold Airbrush over IMBC?

I need some advice for putting gold luster onto IMBC.  I have some Americolor AmeriMist airbrush liquid on it's way to me now.  I have tested a little with the Wilton can'o'gold spray, and it seems to work OK, but I've started to worry about stacking this cake.  This will be a smooth-iced double 14" bottom tier sprayed gold.  The top 3 tiers are textured white IMBC- no problems here.  It occurs to me that if I TOUCH the gold spray, it comes off on my finger and leaves a white fingerprint, since it literally sits ON TOP of the buttercream.  I'm not sure how to drop the 12" with out damaging the gold, and mostly  - when I DO damage the gold, how do I repair?  With a dry brush and dust? Yikes!

sure practice doing repairs--but i usually use swiss mbc--doesn't imbc need to 'crust' up a bit even though it stays tacky? if memory serves wouldn't any repair kinda show a bit?

know what you could do? stack the next cake onto the dbl 14 before delivering--glory it will be freaking heavy so plan to have some muscle around but that's your safest bet under the circumstances--

if it was me--i'd take my sprayer w/me--is this a 360 cake or will there be a 'back' on it? can you plop some decor onto any booboos?

this is the b---- to using the airbrush for something like this--especially on meringue icing--also a stray idea is to color the icing underneath so it's not such a glaring jolt of contrast--

you can also get a carry along spraye/atomizer--just dedicated for this one project -- test out brand new never used freshly cleaned squirt bottles like for travel size hairspray-- i've done that before-- i've also taken my air brush on deliveries--

another thought is to dab on dry color then spray some plain alcohol to get it to meld--but not enough to make it drip--

good luck!

if you had your own tv show what would be your favorite commercial/sponsor

i think i'd like ghirardelli and hershey for starters...

Thank you K8!

I will definitely color the underneath icing.  Duh.  That will solve a few problems.  IMBC does not crust.  It is a lot like SMBC.

And it is a 360 cake.  Just found out my "paint" delivery did not arrive, so I might be using wilton cans, which are highly portable...  But otherwise, an atomizer bottle is a great idea.  I probably would not be able to bring the airbrush for the on site assembly.
