I bought some Saco powdered buttermilk about a week ago to make red velvet cookies.  I scooped out what I needed and put it back in the pantry.  I just got it out to use it for a non-cake purpose and noticed on the lid it says to refrigerate after opening!  It's on there twice so I figure it must really need it.  The expiration says 2017.  Before I threw it away I wanted to ask on here and see if anyone knows if it really does need to be kept in the fridge.  I hate to throw out an almost new container of anything if it's not necessary.  Thanks 

wow--what all is in it? this is a good example where reading the ingredients and knowing what they mean could come in handy--

i would probably keep it and use it for home use depending on what the ingredients said--

drinking it--no

cooking and baking with it- probably ok

contact the company to make sure. I wouldn't want to use something that may have spoiled even if it's used just for my family.

AOk yea. I'm going to call them and see what they say. In the meantime, I just went and bought a new one. :). Thanks!

it's real buttermilk--not the kind we have today that is made from an additive and mislabeled as 'buttermilk'--

i'm real curious what the company will say if you contact them--

i'm gonna guess you lost some of the freshness--not that it went bad on you--but that it is a bit weaker product--but that's just a guess
