AHi there. I have looked and looked, but cannot find... I am making a snake cake for my sons 9th birthday and am looking for a tutorial. If no tutorial then I am looking for information about what size pans are used, how they are stacked, cut etc... What people are using for the scales impression? Please help! Thank you so much.

Use some sheet cakes, cut them into a snake shape, then cover with fondant. Use the round end of a piping tip to press scale shapes into the fondant and you're good to go. Look at pictures of snakes to see how the scales look, they're different than fish scales.

There's a whole bunch on google. The top 3 all go to tutorials, one is a video. I didn't look past that.

AA mesh bag, like the one they use to hold bags of oranges would be a great impression mat

This is what they use in the attached tutorial. Also, carving the cake while it's partially froze will help.

I saw one made from a round cake, it had rings carved out of it and then fondant used to give the impression of a snake coiled up, the head was coming out the top, looked great, I think I just searched for snake cake then studied it to see how I thought they had done it. Good Luck.

AI made a snake cake out of two 9" Rd's, torted & ganached then used a circle cutter to cut hole in middle (which I used for the head & tail), then cut each cake into a semi-circle. I made a S shape from the pieces & added a carved head & tail. I covered all with buttercream & made fondant circles impressed with a bumpy sheet of non-stick mat. Hope the photos help :D

I used two bundt cakes and cut them in half then arranged them in an s pattern for my son's birthday a couple of years ago. It was just a simple cake, not torted or anything.

AYes, I have spent ALOT of time researching it. There are a couple of tutorials on you tube about 1-2 min long. Some written suggestions but no great turbo rials. I thought I saw one on cake central awhile ago but can't find it. Thanks for your reply.

ASorry, I didn't add the link-the top is the tutorial I was referring to but there are some underneath as well as the tutorial from CC. I would cover with fondant then add the impression if you're going for a more realistic look.
