Has anyone ever made a bowl out of gumpaste and then placed cake inside of it?  I'm planning out a "bowl of spaghetti" cake, and I'm wondering if it would work. My main concern would be that the gumpaste would get soft and lose its shape after the cake and buttercream are loaded inside.

Any thoughts?

For a "bowl of spaghetti" cake, you should cover the bowl/cake in fondant, NOT gumpaste, so you can cut through it easily to serve.

Here's a great tutorial...it's not a bowl, it's a pot, but you can still get an idea of how to do it: https://www.facebook.com/notes/royal-bakery/spaghetti-and-meatballs-cake/529272440427394

That's a great link, thanks!  It's not exactly what I'm aiming for, though.  I really do want to make the bowl out of gumpaste and then fill it with cake--mainly because I want something quick and easy.  This is what I envision:

- Mold the bowl out of gumpaste

- Fill it with cake layers, with buttercream between layers

- Top with buttercream, then fondant decorations

- Scoop out cake to serve

I'm concerned, though, that the gumpaste will soften once it's in contact with the buttercream.

Paint the inside of the bowl with melted chocolate - a few painted layers and after it is dry, moisture will not seep to the gumpaste
