Hi.

I am having a cookie decorating party for my first grade daughter and 11 of her friends.  Just wondering which icing is more practical, royal icing or buttercream icing?  Or does anyone have any ideas about a different icing to use?

I have boxes and wrapping for them to take the cookies home.  Any other suggestions for this type of party welcome.  I will be pre-filling the icing bottles and fitting them with tips.

Thanks!!!

Thanks K8Memphis.  This party is going to be a hoot with a bunch of 7 year-olds!

I just did cookie decorating with my 4, 6, 9 and 11 year old kids.  I flooded sugar cookies with royal icing and let it dry, and then let the kids decorate with food writer markers and small tubes of thicker royal icing that they could use to attach silver balls, candies, coarse sugar, etc.  They had a blast and it wasn't super messy.  The food writers are really the way to go!
