I just got an order to do a Handy Many cake just like this. My question is how would you put together the tool box section? I'm thinking a rectangle of cake for the bottom section and then maybe cardboard covered pieces for the outside part of the handles with a fondant covered dowel across. Not sure if there is a better option for the whole handle section, if you have a good idea please let me know! Also I was thinking of putting dowels through the individual tools to get them to stand straight like that. Would you use fondant or gumpaste combo? Thanks!

For the tool box, I had decide early how big it would be to fit on my round cake. I created a paper template for the rectangle base. I then cut out flat shapes for the sides of the tool box. For the handle sides I drew a template and used that for cutting. I cut out a hole near the top which was the same size as my fondant covered dowel used for the handle. I let these dry for several days before attempting to adhere to the cake. I read online that it is possible to speed up fondant piece work drying time by placing in the over for an hour with just the oven light on. I will have to try that next time because I was too afraid it would ruin my work.
The night before the cake pick up I put the doweled tools into the tool box cake so they wouldn't have too much time to settle and move around.
