My brother in law and his fiancée are getting married in December and are having some pre-wedding family celebrations. I am a hobby baker and fancy learning some new skills and making a cake for one of these get-togethers.

I have been told that their nickname for each other is Botty! (a slang/baby term for bottom/butt).

I was thinking of doing a his and hers butt cake. Here's my rough sketch.

His side will be a blue check chocolate transfer boxer short. Her side will be a black lace chocolate transfer thing.

What do you think? Everyone who is going has a good sense of humour and won't be offended, but do you think it looks odd? I can't find a similar picture anywhere online and am a bit nervous of making something up out of my own imagination.

I thin k being creative and coming up with your own ideas is what truly makes a good baker/cake decorator.  I think it's a fun design and an interesting idea.  It's your family so you have to be the judge if you think it's appropriate or not.  My brother got engaged and i am making a classy engagement cake for them.  I'm doing a square cake with a fondant box on top with an edible ring inside.  That is a completely different angle.  As far as you design goes, don't be afraid to take a risk.  It's a good design and i'm sure it will make for good memories.

AWouldn't that be indistinguishable from "body" when said aloud?

Booty can also be a big bunch of gifts or items.  Just thinking out loud.

AI'm in the uk, so it's botty. It's a more babyish word than booty. It does sound different from body if you say it in an English accent but I can see how it would sound similar in a US accent.

Theicingartist - thanks for the encouragement. It's definitely not a classy cake! Your's sounds lovely but I don't think my skills are good enough to do a classy cake. I've only done novelty ones so far.

Is it wrong that I giggled like a mad thing when I played the first of those pronunciation things :p

I think the idea of the Botty cake is witty and in keeping with their pet name, but I would clear it with one of them first, just to be sure that they are OK with their 'pet name" for each other being so ... erm... out there :p

If you think it looks odd...it might be nice to do 2 full 'bottoms' side by side....perhaps with arms linked around. More work...but just another angle.

AI like that idea RosieCakeDiva. I don't want to make the cake too big so I could do the 4 buttocks in 3 inch hemisphere tins on 2 x 6 inch square cakes. Any idea how I would carve the arms and hands out if cake or would you make them out of solid fondant/modelling chocolate?

Well at that size (I'm now imagining buttock size lol) I think you gould get away with fondant. You might want to be really cheeky (excuse the pun!) and have a male hand on a female buttock. The whole cake is pretty cheeky anyway.

Oooooh ohhhh....and wedding rings on the fingers?

AI'm quite disturbed by the thought of carving my brother in laws buttocks!
