It's a lot of work - charge similar to what you do for one serving of a whole cake. Remember that a cupcake is 1 serving of cake! If you baked them into a cake and frosted it, would you charge less? I only charge $1 less per serving than I do with whole cakes since I don't have to torte, frost, fondant, decorate and stack them.
There are times that I charge more than $3 per cupcake if they wanted some really detailed topper on each cupcake or sugar flowers, butterflies, etc...
AThe area you sell in as far as pricing goes is often exaggerated on this site. If you live in Bangladesh, of course, the prices will be drastically different compared to living in the USA. If you have to charge less than what you'd need to charge to make a living in your area because people won't pay more, that means custom cakes is not a viable business in your area, not that you should work for less.
I sell cc's like those very often and I charge $4.50 each. I live in a large metropolitan area with one of the lowest costs of living in the US.

$2 a cupcake? That's incredibly cheap. Lots of people are going to balk at prices because most people can't afford fancy cupcakes and they don't have a clue how much work is involved ...and don't care anyway. They are used to stuff manufactured in China and don't understand why those prices are so low.
I had a lady literally start screaming at me on the phone when I told her my quote for a castle cake. It was annoying, but mainly because I had already let her waste so much of my time. Always get the price range out there asap.
Some people won't tell you their budget. Not sure why - it's as if they think if they tell you, then you're going to cheat them or something.
A$2 is for a basic cupcake. no decoration. i'm amazed that is considered cheap. not sure where everyone lives. or how you guys are buying ingredients. I use high end ingredients and puchase @ whole sale prices. I also produce product quickly. believe me I make profit. if someone wants a custom cupcake I start @ 2.5 & go up.
The OP was asking about a custom cc. There's a picture on page one of this thread... or am I misunderstanding you? I charge $2.50 for an undecorated cc, but that's for basic flavors like chocolate and vanilla, not flavors like you'd find in a cc shop where prices tend to be about $3.75 for an undecorated cc.
