Hi, I need some help. My step-daughter's boyfriend is having his 18th birthday party this Saturday. The person that was supposed to do his cake as a gift has backed out and they want me to do it. I can't do what she was going to do as I don't have the supplies and no one near me sells the edible image I would need. This is the cake he wanted

I have no idea whose cake this is - I can't give credit for it, I'm sorry.

Any ideas on a cool cake for someone with pretty basic skills for this guy - he's a great guy and we all really love him so I want him to have a nice cake - 18 is a big deal, ya know?

I can guarantee I'm more of a newbie than you :) , but I've seen some terrific tutorials on how to do camo fondant and camo cake on the inside and both look pretty easy. Want me to see what I can find? I'm guessing he's a hunter from the example?

Using resin figures instead of modeling them yourself would be an option. Perhaps someone has some you can borrow? Put a barrier between the cake and non-edible decorations.

Wilton sells tubes for sticking fresh or wire flowers in or you could use straws (bubble tea straws are bigger) and insert twigs, leaves or cattail stems.

How about  molding 1 animal as a topper out of rice crispy treats and cover with fondant? I'd suggest a bear and the legs are chunkier than a deer.

Thanks IowaBaker - those were great ideas - the only issue is he doesn't like "regular camo" only "Mossy Oak camo" - picky right? UGH. Maybe just green for one tier and brown for the other and some plastic figures?

How about rustic butter cream with a band of mossy oak ribbon around it? This example is a wedding cake and NOT mine! but the idea could be adapted. http://www.pinterest.com/pin/359162139003317920/

Maybe cut a couple oak leaves out of fondant or gumpaste or use real oak leaves in the decorations. I know our red oak is starting to loose leaves, but I'm a bit north of you. Iowa, but I guess you could guess that from my "name". :)

I'm less confident about my own ability to do a convincing tree stump cake, but I love these, too: https://www.google.com/search?q=tree+stump+cake+idea&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=-jCBUpevIcKVygGQjoGYBg&ved=0CCkQsAQ&biw=1440&bih=737

OK IowaBaker - you ROCK!!! :D I may do a quick mini-cake tonight just to see if I can do a stump lol. Now I am off to search for Mossy Oak ribbon and seedless raspberry jam or filling....thank you so very much for your help! I'm kind of overwhelmed right now because I'm in the middle of moving 53 miles between new place and storage units from old place, am also petsitting my mom's 6 ferrets, and designing and planning my youngest step-son's birthday cake and party for next weekend lol. You truly are a lifesaver (or at least a cake saver!!)

Aw, thanks, you just made my day! I've been down since
Saturday when I got a non-reaction to a cake I made for a relative that I'd poured my heart and soul into. I hope your stepson and your other young friend each have a happy birthday. ;-D

Aww, I'm so sorry :( I hate it when that happens. Thanks, I hope they do too - if I don't kill the older one first. I'm beginning to suspect why the other person backed out with being ignored about how many people and what flavors and what time etc...at least i am being ignored right now

How did it go? Can you post a pic?

You had a whole lot going on all at the same time! I hope things are a little more back to normal for you.
