AHi there I'm fairly new to all of this and needed to ask a question. I'm planning on hand painting leopard print on a cake, but because of the cornstarch that's still left on can I steam it or will the hand painting smear or run if I steam first? Or can I steam first to rid the excessive cornstarch and then hand paint? Also can you put a hand painted cake in the fridge or will the condensation make the paint run. Thanks for your help
I would probably steam the cake first, and then paint it if you have that option. I have steamed hand painted cakes with no problem before, but I would be careful not to steam too much! Go lightly, and return to any places that need extra steaming. I did see some running of colours when I steamed a sprayed cake - but that was quite heavily coloured to get a very deep dark blue!
And I wouldn't put it in the fridge - but then I NEVER put fondant cakes in the fridge, although I know many people on this forum do.
