Hey everyone,

Figured I'd ask here since you're all pro's with this kind of stuff. I'm looking to name my business and I've asked friends and family and narrowed my choices down to a few. I wanted to anonamously ask here what the first things that pop into your head hearing the names and seeing the logos (really shoddily made just as a demonstration, these wont be the actual logo, I'll do some variations off these ones).

So I'm just looking for what your initial reactions would be, what you think my business would do/provide just by looking at the name and logo, no backstory or anything. It's really important that my name conveys easily what type of business I am as well as sounding nice/welcoming and having a bold and colourful look to attract attention.

Chloe's Custom Cakes (My name is Chloe by the way)

The Purple Spatula (Cakery) or Chloe's Purple Spatula

Chloe's Cake Cafe

So take a look and have a think first, then scroll down to hear what my business is actually going to be, and see then which idea best suits the business. If you could write in the comments what you first thought of when you looked at each of those ideas first that would be great :) I've been struggling over a name for some time now, nothing seems to grab my attention.

MY BUSINESS:

So my business is basically going to be that I want to run my own shop, selling cupcakes/cakepops/slices of cake etc behind a counter and then have an open plan seating area for parents and their kids or just generally any customers to sit down and eat their goods, have a rest or a chat with friends and family. The idea is to have a nice warm environment where people can relax and eat cake. But on top of this I do also want to make custom cakes for birthdays/baby showers/holidays/weddings etc. Obviously at the moment I'll be selling cupcakes/cakepops etc to customers from my own home until I can get the money to open said shop so I'm a little hesitant about the last idea and logo since most of my advertising will start on a website + social networking. What do you all think? Or do you have any different ideas not mentioned here? I wanted to include my name in the business name somewhere but it's not a necessity if the right name really grabs my attention. My original idea was Chloe's Little Bakery since CLB are my initials. But I think bakery implies that I'd bake and sell bread/pastries etc which is not really something I'm interested in.

Thanks for reading this far, sorry it's a long post but I gratiously accept any ideas or help from all of you.

Just a disclaimer. Again the logos, artwork/font etc is subject to massive change and I obviously won't be using anything that's not subject to use for commercial purposes.

Thanks!

Chloe

i like 'spatula' or 'spatula's', spatulaz (?) and i'd make it look like it was twirling a little--because it is ear catching, different and unique--it could still be purple in color-- otherwise i think it gets too long when you add chloe's and purple--

and then i like the last one best of the ones listed because again it would be referenced as 'Chloe's' for short--easy to remember

just my opinion--just brainstorming with you best of luck to you

You nailed it on the head there with that last one, and it's partly why I wanted to get my name in there, so people could shorten it to just Chloe's for referencing :) I like Spatula but not Spatulaz, you've given me something to think about though with trying to make the name even shorter and sweeter. So thanks ^_^

Sorry, I don't like any name with "spatula" in it.  This is hard to describe, but the longer you look at/say the word spatula, it doesn't seem like a real word???

Also, I don't think most people look at an image of a spatula and see cake - just my opinion there. :)

Got any other choices that didn't make the poll?

Liz

I see what you mean. Most people imagine this when they hear spatula don't they (even though this is a fish slice):

Other ideas were Chloe's Cakery and Lick The Bowl/Spoon but these names are already taken under .co.uk URL's (I live in the UK so don't fancy a .com address) Chloe's Creative (Cakes/Cakery) but each time I hear the word creative I like it less and less (which doesn't make sense I know) I feel if something is creative you don't need to say it is, based on physical appearance alone should serve its creativity I think. Maybe it's just me :/

I like the first and the last one out of the 4 options.

The 'lick the spoon' names gross me out..I think of people literally licking the spoons of their batter/baked goods and then selling them.

no thanks!

I really like the fourth one.

What someone said in another thread: Try saying the name out loud. Only pick a name that you can easily answer the phone with!

Could you start with just "Chloe's Cakes" and then add the Cafe when you open your shop? I love the name Chloe's Cake Cafe, but if you are starting from home, it doesn't really fit.

That's a possibility. But with regards to websites ChloesCakes is already a respectable website. Unless I hold off buying a website until I open up shop, and advertise myself directly through social media?

AI would go with Chloe's Custom Cakes to start out with, then once you are ready to open a shop you can launch the Chloe's Cake Cafe brand and operate both simultaneously since they will be focusing on different target customers.

You can differentiate yourself with your location, for example you could pick a domain like "chloescakesmanchester.co.uk". If you don't have a shop, a professional website is a must for a serious business.
