I just received an email announcing the Cake Boss Cloud! The upgrade is $49.00 which I think is well worth the convenience.  I have been wishing for this since I purchased the software. Has anyone upgraded yet?  Would love to know what you think so far.  My main question is will the cloud automatically update the desktop version? Thanks Kelly for listening to our request!

All of those are my questions, too.

I am wondering when we will be able to scan a grocery receipt into it and have it add it to the materials and ingredients and inventory and supplies...How rad would that be? Or have it tied into Square, so it adds the payments automatically? I will cross my fingers...

ANo new info on their web site (which seems odd) but they have a few YouTube videos highlighting features of the new cloud version: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCH1U2_xToyUHbG8a3jvLZiw

I decided to upgrade, and immediately, when you click the link, it tells you to sign in... Wha? I don't have a username and password! After trying to link 3 times, and clicking the "forgot password" I figured out that i needed to click the small "shop" button...

BUT, I only have an option to buy the whole thing for $149, not the $50 upgrade. But, Why is an upgrade for $50 when I bought the darn thing for $150? It costs the same thing!

HTH!!

FYI, it does say that you will get a link to instructions on how to move your stuff over, after the upgrade.

You need to click the upgrade button, not the purchase button. Here is a direct link: http://cloud.cakeboss.com/Home/Upgrade

FYI the cloud version also costs $20/year for storage after the first year.

My main question is will the cloud automatically update the desktop version?

According to their Facebook page, the desktop version and cloud version are completely separate. You can migrate data from the desktop version to the cloud, but not the other way around.

Thanks, Jason, but I CAN READ! FYI, that IS THE BUTTON I pushed. It is in THE EMAIL THEY SENT ME. In fact, EVERYTHING you have written and MUCH MORE is in our emails that went to the people WHO ACTUALLY PURCHASED the product, It just doesn't address our questions. If you would like to be "in the know" , send me a valid email and I will forward it to you ;-D

From email:

How to Get to the Cloud

1. Purchase your $49.00 upgrade by visiting http://cloud.cakeboss.com/home/upgrade.
2. Complete your purchase with PayPal.
3. You will then receive an important email from us with detailed instructions for sending your CakeBoss 2010 data to your Cloud account.

That is the text of the link in the email (the email is available from their FB page) but the link actually goes to a different URL (check the address bar of your browser), it looks like they messed up when putting together the announcement. Not a big deal, since as you said you can click the Shop button to navigate to the correct URL.

ADo you have the software Jason? I'd like some information from someone with firsthand experience with it.

Nope...the best place to ask questions would be their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/CakeBossSoftware

AI upgraded my version this morning by clicking on the email link. The link took me to the cloud homepage where I clicked on the shop button. From there it gave me the option to up grade or purchase. I selected The upgrade, paid thru PayPal and within about 15 mins I received the email instructions on what to do! Pretty straight forward. You do have to accept the 2010 update when you open your desktop version and click the cloud button under preferences to merge your current data to the cloud. I personally had to send a help desk email but I think that has something to do with my computer and not the program. Waiting for a reply now.

I am contemplating downloading the upgrade, but from the YouTube video it looks to me that there really are no new features, except for it being available from the cloud.. They haven't added any of the requested features like inventories, or options for putting in expenses as individual items etc.. I'm not sure I can justify paying all the extra money just to have it available online. I mean.. it's really not that hard to log into the computer to get the info I need..

Can anyway who has the program confirm if there is actually anything really useful in the new version OTHER than it just being available through the cloud?

I'm going to try it, but if there isn't any new features, it certainly isn't worth it...

I can definetly understand Having to justify the cost! I am constantly on the go with a lot of waiting time during dance season! My daughter does competive dance so I have 3 hours of waiting each day my daughter dance which is 3 times a week at min. So for me that's 9 hours + a week I can use to update customer information, my calendar, keep better track of expenses etc! Having mobile access to cake boss is like a dream come thru in my case! Now I would be a very happy camper if I can get a response to tmy email as to why I can't get access!

I had been using cake boss 2010 for a couple of months when my computer crashed.  Once it was restored I could no longer get into my program Contacting support, they decided that my back up, on a USB, was corrupt and I could no longer get my saved data.  I was forced to start from scratch so I upgraded to the cloud for safety.  Not only do you not get preloaded material and ingredients when you upgrade but the is also a problem with conversions.  I have to convert lbs to ounces in order to get equivalents in cups.  I have been going round and round with the support dept for 5 days with no avail!

Thank you for this! Very helpful. I've been thinking about doing the upgrade for this reason(backup) but maybe I'll wait until they figure out their quirks. You'd think they would have worked that out before releasing the update.

AAm I understanding correctly that the cloud based program works independently of the PC program, and if you have both they don't talk to each other? Or is the idea that people will migrate from their current PC program onto the cloud based version?

I purchased the package for $149 and tried it for 30 days. I had issues with multiplying recipes, they never came out right. Also, the measurement values are annoying - if you do not spell out tablespoon, it will not give you a tablespoon, for instance you can't use tsp or tbs. Adding ingredients I found klunky also.  This was the cloud program. After 29 days of use I cancelled, it just isn't that helpful for me. I'll have to find another program. The cloud based program is owned by a company called Masters Software, Inc. I don't know what relation they have to the pc program.

Both the desktop and Cloud version are owned by Masters Software.

I have the cloud version. Now while I am still learning it, my only gripe is you have to pay for it yearly. I have a massive amount of storage space. I wanted the desktop version so I didn't have to pay for someone else's cloud but couldn't get it. I did use the multiply recipe function recently and didn't really have any issues. You do have to be specific when you are entering ingredients. But after you do that, you shouldn't really have any issues. At least I haven't, yet. I will say that the program overall is and isn't user friendly. I have always been able to open a new program and figure it out without tutorials etc. In my previous 9-5 life I trained people on our companies program because I was the most proficient at it and I never watched a tutorial. This program I haven't been able to do that with everything. I have had to watch some tutorials. But they are always making updates and adding features that people request, which is nice.
