Can please someone advise me if is ok to check in gum paste flowers at the airport, I have a destination wedding (out of the country) and I will be making my own gum paste flowers, I want to make sure they will pass control. Please advise me
Thank you :D
AI think if they're already made and dried, it should be fine. They would probably have an issue with a container of actual gumpaste, but I don't see how dried sugar flowers would be a problem.
Could you also make them, package them VERY carefully with a TON of cushion and ship them before you leave?
Check with your airline and TSA or equivalent if you are not in the US. You don't want to get caught not knowing the exact rules. You probably want to get it in writing and take a copy of it with you too if you can take it with you.
I've traveled with (dried) gum paste flowers internationally but I brought them on the plane with me, I packed them w/ bubble wrap in a long cardboard box that was originally used for industrial plastic wrap (like saran wrap for restaurants). I was asked to open the box through security and it wasn't a problem. I put them under the seat in front of me.
Heh. I just thought about the time I brought a two pound chunk of sugarpaste/gumpaste with me up from Central America through MIA because I knew I wouldn't have access to a stand mixer. I was carefully explaining what it was when I realized that the customs agent could not have cared less. He was all, "Uh huh. Welcome home." Riiiiiight. I wanted to say, "You wanna know how many different things this could be?? And you didn't even give it half a look!" Then I remembered that I had better things to do than raise a ruckus in customs.
