Hello, A friend has asked me to do this type of cake. I have often seen people have the fondant rolled up or sometimes something coming out of the top and the fondant rolled back. Can someone please tell me how this is done? I am not quite sure where to start? Lego pieces first or after you fondant? A fondant thin layer underneath? Thanks for any input!

Much appreciated!

I would do the white fondant first and cut out that section for the legos with an exacto knife. I don't think that is actually rolled back. It just has that appearance. If it really was rolled back, it would have buttercream on it. All you would have to do is make a triangle shape of white fondant, roll it, let it dry a bit and attach it to the top after doing the lego portion.

There are also lego looking silicone molds you can get so you don't have to make all of those little bumps by hand.

AI put my 'Legos' on the cake, and when I put the fondant on, I made sure the Legos were not damp so the fondant wouldn't stick to them. I used an Exacto knife to cut the top fondant away from where I wanted the Legos exposed. Then, I used a piece or two of fondant rolled or folded to look like it was being rolled over the Legos. Does that make sense?

I would probably do legos after the white fondant...I think it would be hard to judge where to cut the white fondant if you did legos first. If you did do legos first, I would cut a peice of wax paper dusted with powedered sugar/cornstarch mixture on top of legos section...I use MMF, so it is pretty bad about sticking together even if somewhat dry. I made my legos without mold, and it wasn't too bad...I just used the small round side of an icing tip to punch out the bumps and attached them with a dab of water.
