Has anyone tried Passion Fruit Mouse Filling?

I have never made Passion Fruit Mouse Filling and was thinking about trying it, but before I do I would like to know if anyone has tried it and if you liked it and what it taste like? Your opinions is greatly appreciated.

Is that a passion fruit shaped like a mouse or a mouse that tastes like passion fruit?

I haven't tried passion fruit mousse, but it sounds delicious.

Shanter you are too funny. Well I went all over town looking the the passion fruit concentrate and no one has it not even the hispanic grocery stores. icon_sad.gif

I made passion fruit curd.  It was very difficult to find pure passion fruit juice.  I ended up with a GOYA brand bottle of passion fruit juice.  I did not care for the end result it just tasted 'sweet' could not find any prevalent flavor.  However I found the recipe was quite diff from the one I used for grapefruit curd which was absolutely delish

I make passion fruit mousse quiet a bit.  I offer it as a filling for my coconut cake and as a tart filling.  It's basically a PF curd with gelatin added. Then after it cools, fold in soft whipped cream.  Chill, then I just whisk it and spread between layers. It's a very popular flavor.  I used to make a white chocolate passion fruit ganache as a filling for one of my chocolate's and it was one of my most requested.

Passion fruit can be hard to find retail.  I use Perfect Puree's Passion Fruit Concentrate.  It can be ordered online, but they really stick it to you on shipping.  They only want to overnight it usually.

Having lived in Hawaii and developing a love of passion fruit anything, I was dismayed to find it so difficult to find it here. I do make passion fruit curd and mousse and finally found a source in St. Louis. I don't know where you live, but here is the link to where I get mine. To me, it is worth a nearly 2 hr, one way, trip to stock up my freezer.

Passion fruit mouse filling. Sounds like an odd combination. Is it for a cat cake?

 

Oh. Mousse filling. Are you filling a moose? I've always had this idea of a dessert in the form of a moose-shaped hollow candy shell, filled with mousse: a mousse moose.

I have been thinking about how to describe the flavor of passionfruit. It is difficult for me to do. I can say "fruity", but that doesn't tell you much. Is it sweet, or is it tart?  It is not cloyingly sweet, nor do I find it pucker-inducing tart. Better to tell you it is sweet/tart, but that doesn't help much either. I find it very distinctive and, to me, nearly addicting. :)   One thing I can do, though, is to tell you that Welch's makes a fruit drink, Mango/Passion fruit. I love the flavor of both and they make a terrific combination. Still, that doesn't sort out the individual flavors, does it?

 

I might also add that Lorann's oils makes a flavoring, Tropical Punch which is based upon the passion fruit. It doesn't have the true flavor for me, but comes close and is delicious in buttercream. Until I found my above mentioned source, that is what I used. I still do like it and continue to use it.

 

 So, Pat, all I can say is if you do find it, give it a try.

Before moving to Hawaii, I lived in California. All during my childhood and early teen years we had a passion flower vine that covered the whole wall of our garage. I kick myself now for through out all those years, we never realized that all that wasted fruit was edible! We enjoyed it strictly for the wondrous flowers. Oh, the regrets now...
