AI'm really into learning sugarveil, but for $76 the mat no thanks. Does anyone knows another place that sells mats for sugarveil icing? And a good recipe from scratch?

There is another product that is similar to sugarveil without the price, but I haven't tried it yet.

Just keep in mind that a lot of the cheaper moulds are a lot smaller and you may need to make a few pieces for your cake.  This can become a major pita if they need to be left to dry overnight each time.

I recently bought a product called Cake Lace by www . thecakedecoratingcompany . co . uk (close all the gaps, obviously)

It's FABULOUS....  you put it in an oven at 50c-80c for 15 minutes and then it's done!!!!!!!

So even if you buy smaller mats, it doesn't matter as it takes no time to do...  PLUS, unlike sugarveil it doesn't dry hard a brittle.  It stays soft!

Anybody out there know if we can purchase the Claire Bowman/Cakelace products in the US? Searched the internet with no luck myself...Have a wedding cake in November and would love to try this! Thanks!!

I've only seen it from the UK website.  They do ship to the  US though. I'm considering ordering it to try.  Sugarveil is iffy for me.  My trials this weekend dried really hard and wouldn't flex around the cake.  The Cake Lace sounds like it would work better.

AHey all Stateside, according to the Cake decorating company's FB page, cake lace has just got a us distributor - Decopac - and it will be available from the 1st March :-) hope that helps....

And does anyone know if you can use cake lace mix on a sugarveil mat? I really want to get some but I think the sugarveil mats are much more delicate...

There's also someone on Etsy that sells Cake Lace and some different mats.  Don't have the name in front of me, but just search for it.
