Hi everyone!

I just started taking Wilton Course 1 and am really enjoying it. As I support a family of four (Hubby is a stay-at-home dad extraordinaire), I watched the class schedule at Michael's until they had a special (55% off!) and bought my course kit when it was on sale too.

However, at the end of the first class, I discovered that I needed to buy several more items for the next week's class.  I left there with a seriously heavy heart.  I'm married to a wonderful man, who saw my distress and encouraged me to go ahead and get what I need.  Still, I can't help but compare the cost of a turntable to the gallons of milk that we could be buying instead.

I would like to take Course 2 in the future, but I don't want any surprises.  Could someone please tell me what I *really* need for the course?  Are there any additional supplies required (or that you would recommend having)?  I'd like to be able to find them on sale before I sign up for the next class.

I took the class several years ago so I don't recall exactly what we had to buy in addition to the kit, however I took full advantage of their 40 and 50% off coupons to buy anything else I needed.  This helped a lot. The bottom of their receipts usually have a coupon so I would just buy items one at a time and I'd use the coupon from the previous purchase.  I know it is frustrating to have to buy additional things to take the class, but if it is a hobby you are interested in, you will be building up supplies that you will be using in the future.  Have fun!

AI nave no clue about the materiales, but maybe u can on Wilton's web page, and they send cupones for michaels. Hope u can continue it would be great if I had a Michaels near to take the classes.

You might be able to go to the class with supplies you have on hand and then purchase what you need in the store while you're there.  Keep a coupon handy!  I took course 1 and I felt I could have gotten by without some of the supplies, but that is how they make their money.  And it's true, you keep the supplies for your future hobby.

Or, another suggestion:

buy the supplies, keep them in excellent condition and the sell them on Ebay.

Ebay is great for getting rid of stuff for money!

AThe best thing to do is review the course guide to see what is going to be on the list for each week and decide for yourself if it's something you can improvise or if you just don't think you'll ever need it again. The turntable for example is something that you will use if you intend to keep doing cakes but you don't need anything past the basic one.

Definitely take advantage of all the coupons you can get your hands on, if you have a smartphone there are coupon apps for both Joann and Michaels and they take each others coupons too.

ADid you sign up for Michaels coupons-print off more than one-get the stuff you need for class-get your husband,friends and family give each one a coupon or shop everyday especially with the 50% off coupon. Happy baking and decorating

AFor the first night you need: 9 inch Rollin pin with guides, 1 box neon fondant, 1 bag gum paste, 1 tablespoon sugar and cornstarch, about 1-2 tablespoons vegetable shortening, cling wrap, 4 quart size baggies, scissors, course 2 student kit, container to take flowers home in, practice board from course 1 or the blue gum paste storage board( it is easier to use this board than the other and you need it for course 4 anyway), angled spatula, and small container for gum glue like a small pill bottle. This information is also on the Wilton student website. Also Michaels syllabus should have a bar code giving 10% off purchase also. Most instructors have a facebook page that has all 4 courses broken down by each class what you will need for each. I hope this was helpfull
