A I'm wondering how I would do a cake like this. I know it is probably pretty basic for some if you, but I don't have a lot of experience.
AI get the letters, the hydrants and the polka dots, but the circle on the edge, firetruck and dog confuse me.
For the circle on the edge, I would use a cake board that's the size of the cake and with a sharp knife or cutting wheel cut the fondant. Then with a cake board that is about four inches smalle, I would cut another circle within your cutout. The rest I would look for a template that I can print out and use as a guide to cut my fondant.
For the firetruck and dog, just find an image online, print it, cut it out, lay it on top of your fondant and use an exacto knife to trace it. You can just go to google images and type in "firetruck" to find some. I did this for my sesame street characters and the Chicago Bears logo on a cake.
I have the firetruck & hydrant cutter. Got them for $1. I also found a firehat. These are super small cutters...ideal for this. Except I truck can be used for a cookie. I would cut the dog out by hand.
Thanks. Is there an easy way to keep the paper from sticking to the fondant? I had to put wax paper underneath my paper and take a needle and make dots to cut around because it kept sticking. It was a huge pain and made me wish for a Silhouette. :)
