I am going to be making a 5 tier cake......square bottom tier, the rest will be round. Suggestions on the sizes I should use? There will be approx 175 people at the wedding. I did explain that this cake is going to feed A LOT more then 175!!!! She expressed understanding. Also, she wants.."FLAWLESS" BC.....ugh!!!!! 5 tiers of flawless BC....???!!!!!!!!!!! The only decorations I will be putting on it is a pearl border around the bottom of each tier.
The flavors:
Bottom/square: Vanilla colored a purple
First round: Vanilla/Chocolate marble
Second: Chocolate with Chocolate filling
Third tier: Vanilla with a Rapberry filling
Last tier: DREADED Red Velvet
Any suggestions more then welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AIt really depends on the look you and the bride wants, I'd google cake serving charts you'll see stacked variations as well as serving sizes.
You can stack some cake dummies to have an idea of what it will look like. You can also add height with cake dummy if she doesn't want that many servings. You should also consider if they are saving or serving the top tier.
Here is a tutorial on how to get BC smooth using a paint roller

and here is one where you use a Viva paper towel to smooth BC

Hi,
I use Cake Stacker app to calculate and design such cakes.
They have Android and Iphone apps if you are interested.
Hope it helps. xx

If she's okay with extra servings, a 14" square x rounds 12", 10", 8", & 6" will serve 216 - 228 (228 if not freezing top tier).
Or, 11" square x rounds 10", 9", 8", & 7" will serve 173 (if not freezing top tier).
