I am planning on making a jewellery box. Something similar to this one http://cakecentral.com/g/i/3037096/a/3366613/jewelry-box-cake-www-betterhomes-cake-com/ by BetterHomesCake's. - I love the mirror! It's for my niece, and I want to go all out. I would really like to present it with the lid closed and have her open it to see all the candy jewellery on the inside.
I made a dump truck earlier this year http://jenbakescakes.blogspot.ca/2013/02/happy-birthday-jack.html, and my idea then was to have a cake board folded in half with the yellow bit sitting on top of it. It worked well as a hinge, but it didn't really stay on the bottom part of the cake as you can see, and looked messy.
This is my first idea, but I know I'll run into the same problem of the board pulling away from the cake, ripping the fondant.
Does anyone have suggestions for a better way to do this?
