Sorry! I downloaded the picture and it left me no space to type. Do you think this is just several shades of buttercream, applied with a rustic look or is it ribbon or what??  I don't know who the cake belongs to so I can't give credit for it. Someone just showed it to me and asked about it.

Really? You can't see the picture? Because I can see it in the first post over my writing. That's weird! How do I attach a picture? I just copied and pasted. Not too computer savvy. Is there another way that's better?

II hope it's not me but I keep getting an error message.  Do you have the pic saved on your computer?  If so, you can upload it into this thread by clicking on the Insert Image icon.

Yay!! So glad I finally got it loaded!  Yes, that's what I was trying to determine, whether it's all buttercream or some ribbon or what? I was able to enlarge the pic a little and it looks like buttercream to me - no ribbon. Now just trying to think how they got this nice uniform appearance without having the stripes run into each other. Am I even making sense? I'm really tired!!

Pretty! I think it was topped with the taupe color. Then thin 1-3 white fondant ribbons per tier. Taupe lines made with an extruder.
