APros...what do you think of blue velvet cake as a flavor for one of the tiers of a wedding cake? Her colors are blue and black. Also, can I freeze unopened cream cheese to use as an icing later?

AI love it. It took me about 11 different tried to adjust the recipe. There's more to blue velvet than changing the color.

The problem with blue velvet is that it not only colors your mouth and teeth blue, it also, how do I put this delicately...changes the color of a natural body function to a bright kelly green for days!  My nephew wanted it used in his wedding cake that I made, so to be sure he would remember the day I also did the top layer that they are saving for their anniversary in blue velvet.  They may as well remember everything about that day!  My advise...DON'T DO IT!

LOL....I recently had a friend tell me that happened with the blue icing on the cupcakes I made for him...

Blue is my favourite colour, and if I could get past it being the same colour as mold then I would LOVE blue velvet! But unfortunately I have a thing about moldy food and I can't stand the thought of eating blue or green cake

Do you mind sharing your recipe?..I was just going to use my go-to RVC recipe and just change the red liquid food coloring to blue liquid food coloring..

FYI unopened cream cheese is good for a year in the fridge. I wouldn't freeze it, at all.

AMy "blue" velvet turned out a rather funky army-ish green. Great if I ever need a camo theme. But if you really want blue, just remember what the cocoa will do to the food coloring. That said, I'm way on the novice end of things, so that could be part of it. :)

Beside it changing the color of your teeth/mouth, I just find it very unappetizing to look at. Blue is the least appealing colored food for people to eat. I'm definitely not a fan.

oh dear. I'm just about to make a blue ombre cake... should I warn everyone to eats it to not freak out on any subsequent bathroom trips?

Actually they are just family members so I'll leave it as a surprise

I just made a blue velvet cake for cake pops. With a mix of colors, the batter was a pretty blue. When baked, it turned the color of moldy bread. Tastes wonderful though, so I am using it. It's for a family baby shower, so if they won't eat them, my husband will. :)
