I'm trying to make a 2 layer 9 x 13 cake

I either need a big 9 x 13 recipie (yellow cake) that I can try to torte

Or I need a smaller recipe I can make two batches of. Any tips on how much of a smaller recipe goes in to make a single layer of a 9 x 13?

1 single wasc fills my 9x13. I've baked two, filled, and frosted like any other 4" tall cake.
I'll never fit in a size 6 if I keep having cake for breakfast.

Yes, one batch of my *original* WASC cake recipe is the perfect amount for a 9x13x2 pan.  It also tortes easily (unless the batter contains nuts or raisins).

If you want a small recipe to go into that size pan, you can use the batter from a 'plain/single' box mix.  It just will not bake up to a full 2" height.  Maybe that would do for what you want.....I don't know.  Then you could use 2 and not have to torte, just put filling between the two layers.

Clueless occasional baker here- WASC??

I'd rather scratch bake than box cake.

2 seems a tad tall for a layer cake - I was thinking more like 1.5.

Do you use cake nails to get an even rise?
