That is just beautiful! What Bride wouldn't be completely bowled over by that gorgeous cake!
Thank you! But cake dummies are so much easier to work with than real cake...still need lots of practice before I would be willing to take the risk of screwing up some brides cake! lol
Seems such a waste to put all of that work in and now it's just going to sit there...
I bet!
Its my worst nightmare to make a cake nobody eats. They finally sell dummies here so I'm going to try doing some up for the Farmer's Market...if I ever get organized. It sounds like a ton of work to sell at a market, I haven't even been able to bring myself to do a garage sale for the past 4 years. LOL.
I should get back at this tribal art cake. Just need to whip up the frosting with blackberry reduction and then I can start the hours long process -for me- of frosting a cube!
yeah, I need to get busy making my first Italian Rum Cream cake....blah. I so don't feel like baking right now. I haven't had a day off in a month
Oh BatterUp. Its beautiful. I have a question, How high are those tiers? I bought some square cake dummies the other day. They are 4 inches and seem on the low side. Looking at yours, yours look about the same height as mine.
The bottom is 4" and the top is 3".I got mine from Dallas foam. Where did you get yours?
Batterup - your cake is amazing!! Just beautiful. I'd actually love to see it with a black background. Almost everything on your cake and stand is white/silver/gold and having a black background would make every detail pop.
So well done, I really love it.
You guys are all so encouraging. I must confess I did not make the flowers. For $2.50 each I can't see a reason NOT to buy them. But I did paint them...

I know heaps of cake decorators buy them!! You may decide one day you want to make them, but I'm going to venture into flowers soon and I know that as easy as the tutorials make it look, it's going to take a lot of practice! $2.50 each is a great price! I think if I had made them, I'd be asking more like $10 a flower, lol! And that's only because it would take me forever - hahaha.
My local cake store just started carrying them. I had made my own before...just a few roses as most of my cakes aren't flowery....but when I saw that price and then went online and saw what I could order them for I decided that I would buy them until I got faster at making them. I know a lot buy them but I want to know how to do them myself. Although soon I may not have time for cake orders. Some stuff is brewing in the cake stand business I need 2 of me!!
Fridays are my baking days for the market I sell at on Saturday mornings. Normally I bring candies, cookies, cupcakes, pies, etc, but never any whole cakes. This week was the first time I decided to try a small, simple 6" cake. Didn't know if it would sell, being at a higher price than anything else people are used to buying from me. It finally sold with 20 minutes to spare before closing! So glad I didn't have to bring it home!
I do have a question though. The cake was frosted in buttercream. The flowers were MFF that had dried for a day or so. The cake was finished and packaged on Friday afternoon, and left at room temp in my house. Saturday morning everything was loaded in the car at 5:45 am, when the temp was about 50. By the time I got the table set up, the top leaf on the side had dripped a long green trail all the way down to the border. Horrors! I was able to use my emergency kit to fix that, but then by almost noon when someone bought it, the top pink flower was juuuuust starting to drip as well. It's almost as if the fondant was dissolving. Is there any way to prevent that in the future? I'm very leery now about putting any fondant on the sides of future cakes like this.
It's really cute. It started doing that at only 50 degrees? Wow. No idea why but just wanted to tell you how cute your cake is! Sorry that happened but glad you sold it. I LUUUUV lemon cake
Thanks! :D
Yeah, it was only 50 (or a tad colder, actually), which is why I was a bit confused as to what was going on...I know that fondant sweats when taken from cold to room temp, but this was the opposite. And I've read that even if it sweats, if you leave it alone it will dry without any harm being done. Not so in this case!
Batter Up, I bought mine at my local cake distributor/supplier. Ok, so I guess I'll work with them first. Please, Please share where you got those flowers. $2.50 that's the best price I've seen in like forever. The closest thing to nice flowers here is Cal Java and their not cheap.
I bought them at the store 5 minutes from my front door. But there are a coupe of places online recommended here quite often. You order them by the box and they come out very cheap! I will find the sites and let you know....BTW...when is UPS supposed to bring your package?

That is great news! I love your stands, they're beautiful.
Batterup change your backdrop. Your cake and board are getting lost rather than being the main focus.
I only have 3 backdrops, Black, silver and baby pink...I just happened to have the silver up when I finished the cake. I saw that it looked washed out after posting
Thought of that, but oops spoke too soon. Picked up a small order for a carved dog cake and 2 dz cupcakes.
I did it! My first hand painted cake. Its intended to look like a "bentwood box" which is a traditional pacific native american art. This pic is after transport and I mucked it up (the paint didn't even dry before I attached the panels) some. Friggin' marathon to finish this one. My hands still hurt. I actually ran out of time but it was a "practise" cake so there will be a next one...sometime soon. Haha :)
Hi everyone, still new here :) August was a crazy month for me, so I gave myself a much needed couple weeks off to relax & reboot before another busy time of baking later this month and into Oct... Here are my August projects:
So as you can see in my avatar, my latest creation was for a styled shoot! It was so much fun :D
We did the above set which was "glam" set and the one below we called "country chic"
It was a vendor collaboration with a rental company, a event planner/stylist, a pro photographer, and myself providing the sweets
And, one more! A fun pirate party completely styled by myself and all sweets were my creations as well
