I'm doing this cake for a birthday, but am struggling to get the winged skull design transferred onto the fondant plaque. I've tried lightly pencilling the design on, but can only manage to get smudges. I've also tried freehand drawing it, but can't manage to get it quite right. Has anyone got any tips?? Am in desperate need of help!!! 

When I do plaques I print the image on an edible icing sheet...put on a piece of fondant, cut out and let dry. 

Can you trace over the original image onto parchment paper with pencil? Flip it, and rub over the tracing onto the fondant? Then go over your feint pencil lines with food pens or colour or whatever you are using. That's what I have done in the past. Some may you shouldn't use pencil on cakes though (since it is not edible, though it is non toxic) (and I'm sure we all chewed on pencils at school and lived to tell the tale), so it's up to you to decide whether to do it, but it's really easy if you do!

AI did an intricate design once and I printed the image off the computer then traced it with a super fine paint brush dipped in americolor black, onto wafer paper, ( it's a grad cake in my pictures) Very time consuming but it worked, since the only thing I can draw are stick people. good luck, hope you post a pic, Avenged Sevenfold is my favorite :-)

Thank you so much!! The one that worked out best was the rice paper and black food colour technique! It worked perfectly!!  will get some pictures up as soon as it's finished!
