AI was asked to make a vintage style giant cupcake which I agreed to and then the person changed their mind and asked for a cup shaped cake, in style of vintage cup, on a saucer. I researched it and said I could do it as it looked a little difficult but def doable. I made the plate as advised with flower paste and left it for 3 days, I carved and covered the cake with fondant last night. Today the plate has fully cracked and the fondant is sagging off the cake! It looks awful and I don't know what to do! The cake is due on Sunday and I'm at work tonight on a 12 hour night shift! If I try and recover it has anyone any tips, do I cover with fondant with cake upside down or right way up? How can I make the plate?! Or do I admit problems to client and offer the vintage cupcake at much reduced price? Thanks x

AI'd cover it upside down. Depending on the servings you need you could just use the mini wonder mold pan and slice a bit off the top-this will help hold the cake together.

Oh the cake is still fine? Rip the fondant off and try to roll it thinner. Sometimes sagging can occur from fondant being too thick or the cake needing to settle.

For the saucer you can try and redo it with Gumpaste and stick in the oven with the light on. Honestly, they aren't going to eat that part so I'd trace the plate on some thing cardboard (like a cereal box) and cover that with fondant or gp. If you bend the board before and form a rope of fondant in a circle underneath your 'saucer' so it has some lift. Obviously, in the future make extras in case of breakage.

If you don't think you can pull it off then call your customer ASAP and be honest and ask about the original design. I'd think salvaging the cup and saucer might be easier.

AThanks for your support, just seen these messages but did exactly that smckinney07 I recarved the cake and recovered it, but not upside down... And used a rope of fondant under circle of fondant for plate. Was up all night but happy with final cake and relieved I didn't let customer down!
