Hi there!  I am new to Cake Central, and this is my first ever post, so I hope that I am posting in the right area. :)  I am working on a wedding cake for this weekend, and on the cake is going to be a simple cascade of champagne coloured anemones.....the colours for the wedding are champagne, grey and black.  Anywho, I am going to start with dusting the anemones tomorrow, and I am struggling with what colours to use to add realism and make them pop.  On any other colour, I would dust on a  bit of spring green and yellow at the base of the petals and then a super tiny blush of pink, but I am not sure if this combo will look alright against the champagne colour.....specifically the green and yellow.  I do plan on giving the whole flower a light dusting of luster at the end, but I don't think luster alone will be enough to make the flowers pop.  Could anyone share with me some advice which colours to proceed with?

Thank you so very much!

SM

I would dust just the edges of the flowers with a champagne color dusting powder. Do you have that. Do this with a flat brush and then with a soft round brush. lightly just dust over the petals. Actually , when you dust the edges with the flat brush, it usually makes a lite coating of the dust onto the petal, and that is all you will need to do is just use the soft round brush and lightly stroke the petals. The center is black with the stamens. I think this would look really great. hth

Forgot to say, i learned this in Nick Lodge"s classes and scott woolley's dvd's. Then just lightly dust with super pearl dust and then hold over a steamer or pot of water with steam. They have so many pearl dust of different colors , there might be one close to champagne.

I am partial to yellow/green around the base of the center but ever so lightly.  It should not be a color that pops.  I have also seen a very light plum used.  You should only be able to see through the stamens but so light that your eye doesn't register as a separate color but rather a blending -  (if that makes sense).

You don't want it to conflict with the champagne.   If you have made extra flowers, you could try both ways.  I was looking at real flowers and there just isn't much color around the center and many time none.

Thank you so much for your advice!  I took a practice flower tonight and dusted the base with a slight yellow and green, then pearl dusted the edges, I also ran it thru some steam, and WOW!!!  It looks gorgeous!  Thank you so very much for your advice, I can't wait to get at the rest of the flowers tomorrow!!

Thank you very much!
