I am making a masquerade mask to put atop a ruffle cake. I used very thin SI fondant and tylose. I put the fondant inside the mask to mold it and it looks great. Problem, it has been sitting for about 14hours and is still not dry. While at the same time I made a rose from the same batch and it is completely hard. Is there any way to make it dry faster? At first I thought put it in the oven...but then thought it might melt it rather than dry it. Then I thought put it in the freezer, but pretty sure that will just add more moisture. Any tips. I should have used gumpaste but have never had a problem with my fondant/tylose mixture setting up before. I really want to make my own mask rather than just use the store bought one. Also I am undecided which way would look better; alternating white and black ruffles with gold edges or ombre? Opinions please!! Right now I prefer doing children's cakes or simple birthday cakes but really want to improve my skills so down the road I would be comfortable doing wedding cakes. Probably Waaay down the road. I just ordered a bunch of foam dummies and can't wait to try my first pillow cake.

Well my patience wore thin so I pulled out the fondant and of course it cracked, as I expected. Made some gumpaste and am trying again. ouch.gif This is how your learn! But I absolutely hate wasting materials. Still curious why it didn't dry like the rose did?

It's probably the side against the mask that isn't drying.  Can you carefully take it out of the mask and then put it on top of the mask so that the other side has a chance to dry?  Otherwise adding some tylose should help.

I couldn't get it out without it cracking so I took it out and scrapped it and started over with gumpaste so I will have to paint the whole thing. I dusted it with cornstarch and have it in the oven very low as I read in another thread you could do with gumpaste. SO I'll let you know how trial 2 goes.

Sounds like that will do the trick.  Would love to see a pic when you're done!

Of course...I will post a pic even if it's ugly...lol. Then you guys can tell me what I did wrong. I think it may still take a day or 2 to dry so I am going to start with a pink ombre and just use a pink mask I have, then scrape the freeze it until I am ready to practice my ruffle cake. I have foam dummies on order so if they come tomorrow I can eat the pink cake! lol
