We are having our last Crab Feast of the season tomorrow. My assignment was to bring dessert. I have been wanting to try a FBCT since I first read about them on here about 2 weeks ago. I am satisfied with my 1st try, but think it could be alot better. I made it about 1/4 inch thick. I read many posts from people saying theirs had cracked because it was too thin. Next time I would like to try to make it a little thinner. I would like it better if it didn't sit so high off the cake. Any suggestions for future improvement are appreciated. The picture is posted in my pictures. I couldn't get it to attach here for some reason.

I wish mine looked that good on first try, you did a GREAT job. No answers on getting it to lay flatter on the cake, hopefully someone else can answer that oneicon_smile.gif

I don't remember who it was but about a month or so ago someone recommended outlining your pan on your wax paper, outlining and coloring in your picture and filling in the rest of the cake (out to the pan outline) with your BC. If you are more confused now, basically your whole project will be the size of your cake and then the hard part to me is flipping the whole thing onto your cake. But it sounds cool b/c then you wouldn't have the problem with the height difference! I need to give this a try sometime soon b/c it sounds neat!
Good luck and I think you're cake looks great. Now I want some crab!

Thanks for all the positive comments. Doing the BCT was so much fun. I'm anxious to go to the picnic today to see what kind of reaction the cake gets from my family. If I had more time and ENERGY, I would have liked to given my cake some more detail like sand and water, etc. I will definitely be using BCTs in the future. I also want to try something using the waxed paper and piping gel to transfer a pattern to a cake like we did in Wilton class 1. I'm wondering though if that method will show as much detail as the BCT? The problem is --- I want to try everything I read about! Thanks for attaching the picture. I'm learning so much just from using this forum. I look forward every evening to coming on here and reading the new posts.
