Beautiful! I think you did an amazing job. Now that it's done you can make more cakes! So happy it turned out well, I knew it would.
AI've been following this thread without commenting. So far... That is a lovely cake! Great job!!!
AI thought it was going to be square? Not your first cake, was it? And I don't mean novelty cakes with stars.
I made my practice cake square and decided it was to much work. I have made several Wilton shaped cakes and decorated them with a #18 tip.. this was my second attempt at stacking a cake and working with fondant. The square practice cake was my first time with fondant and actually stacking a cake.

Your cake is beautiful! I've been following the thread and couldn't wait to see the final result. Great job!
Thank you for the compliments :) It's not perfect - but I think it came out pretty good considering I didn't really know what I was doing! haha. Here is another picture of the cake on the table. It had been sitting out for a few hours and was starting to look a little bit saggy by this point... it was still tasty though! :) I found this is something I really enjoy doing. I hope to make more cakes in the future.
I just read this entire thread. Great ending! (After reading some of the negativity) The cake is beautiful! I'm sure you are feeling proud! Glad you let no one bring you down along the way! And it was nice to see so many offer you some great advice and help!

The OP made a beautiful wedding cake! But it appears that what you label negativity was quite helpful for her. She was warned (about square cakes, taking on too much when she had little experience, etc.) and those warnings held true. We're not here on CC to blindly support every post. With those comments she was able to reach her goal. Well done, OP!
You did an amazing job, congratulations. Some people are totally made for cake, and all your practice and dedication really paid off.
Did you manage to make the flowers or did you have the by them? Either way it's beautiful.

Agreed. But there were some not-so-nice comments in the beginning of the thread, beyond the helpful negativity.
AWow, well done!!! The bride must have been so pleased!! You should definitely be proud of yourself :-)
I do not think her obvious success was BECAUSE of the negativity but IN SPITE of it...as clearly shown by her comments in the beginning of this thread....she ignored the negative and pressed on knowing she could do it and she did..you go girl!! You clearly have a talent. Pursue it!! Negativitiy is NEVER positive.
beautiful cake!!!! I would never guess it was your first anything... let alone first wedding cake, first actual fondant cake.. You did an amazing job.

I would agree. I almost quit this project due to comments such as "your going to make news" or "you'll end up on e-bay" ect. Thank goodness for my husband who was there to reassure me. I think it is one thing to offer realistic advice, but completely different to attack someone and belittle them. I knew I had the skills to do this, I wanted advice on what brand of this and that to buy and also advice on what support system to use. I am grateful to the ones who were kind and offered advice, and to all of the people who sent me private messages with help and words of encouragement. This forum has some talented people who were very generous with their time and information. Much of what I did was directly related to the people who helped me.
And again, thanks for all of the recent compliments! I'm relieved that this project is over... but anxiously awaiting a new (hopefully smaller) project!
EDIT - I'm also blow away by the amount of views and comments this topic has received!

Posting a question on any public forum invites everyone to respond. We each have our own way of communicating. (Unfortunately even nasty trolls get to have an opinion and often divert reasonable discussion.) As the OP you appeared to handle it well. Your cake was a success! The best to you and your husband!!
AI am so happy you went through with all of this. I did not start reading until yesterday (it took me all day to catch up!) and I could not believe what I was reading at first!! You are strong to weed through all that negative and push on with your passion which I could tell is cake decorating and family. This turned out amazing! I went to Culinary school and fondant just scares me. Once again great job!!!
You really did do a good job. You should be proud of the cake you produced. I'm really glad everything worked out so well.
This is the information we were given. Based on that, I think most of us assumed that Nickitthebaker had very little experience. While some people can be great the first time out, most of them really do end in disaster. As such, many members expressed concern. Honestly, how many disasters have we seen from someone being more confident in their skills than they should be?!
What I now know is that Nickitthebaker felt the need to exaggerate her inexperience. She felt she wouldn't get as much help if she was honest with us.
Based on a great deal of advice, she decided to do a practice cake where she learned that square cakes are much harder than they seem. Wow. The advice she got was accurate! According to the published story, that was the only practice cake.
Behind the scenes, several pros took a great deal of time to walk her through every step from planning to delivery. Some of them good have saved the energy & time since she already knew some of the steps.
Now, the thread has turned to applauding an absolute novice for a job well done. None of the accolades should be erased. Still, how enthusiastic would they have been if they'd known the true level of skill and experience she had? This is NOT the first tiered cake.
I also see a good deal of people jumping in to say how some of us shouldn't have been so pessimistic. Again, this turned out as well as it did because this was NOT the first tiered cake.
Even if it had been, this would be the exception not the rule.
I write all of this because I don't think it is fair to offer this as proof that people were wrong to caution. This could have ended very badly. Luckily, for everyone, it did not.

Again, you can say virtually anything to anyone, it's just how you say it. NEGATIVITY is NEVER positive.
I agree that there are many ways to say something. I'm going to take the time to go back & read over this whole thread. I really don't recall anyone being nasty, but it's possible.
Oh, and, Lying (or exaggerating) is NEVER ok. REGARDLESS of motive.
