Hi April,

This cake is brilliant (especially considering it's a first try at one like it!) I read an article a little while ago (wish I could remember the baker's name) and she said that the way cakes are generally priced is to triple the cost price and then add on an amount relevant to the time you have spent working on it (this is where cakes become so expensive sometimes, as so much time and commitment goes into the complicated and detailed creations). If you are just starting out on sales, I'd suggest doubling the cost price rather than tripling. I did this at first and although you make little if you divide the cost by the time taken, it was a really good way of getting promoted and getting further business. It's a tricky one - too expensive and you put people off; too cheap and you make people suspicious!

Hope this has helped. Well done on such a fab job - I'm sure your husband must have been very pleased with his cake!
