Hi,

I am doing a 3 tiered wedding cake 6, 9, 12..the bride wants fresh flowers between the 6 and 9 (about 3 inches high..) can I possibly use a cake dummy 4x3 and stack the 6inch tier directly on the dummy? Or any suggestions??

i used the SPS with the extra tall legs. It was very stable.  I did stack on site though and worked with the florist to put in 14 dozen roses and peonies.  (pic is in my gallery, the one under a tent) A combo on the SPS leg heights for the different tiers could give you a good structure. 

AThank you so much for your response..beautiful cake and that's the look I'm looking for. I am using the sps for this cake, but they are stacking it themselves. I was worried the pillars would show, but they don't. Is there Styrofoam to push the flowers into? Could you please tell me what I need for materials between the 6 & 9 inch tiers where the flowers will be? Thank you so much, Lisa

What do you mean that they are stacking it themselves? You aren't going to be putting the tiers together at the venue?  Honestly, that seems a disaster in the making if they aren't totally familiar with stacking with the SPS system and getting the cake board right on the little spike. 

I though that the florist was bringing oasis foam and she thought we were using a big blob of buttercream.  I *just* had enough buttercream to put the stems into and to help prop up the upper layers.  I had lined the top of the cakes with a circle of parchment and the caterer cutting it got instructions on how to remove all the roses and how to take apart the cake.  It was a hot mess inside those pillars!  And it took way more flowers than we estimated.  It was hot and the blooms were wilting something fierce, making them squish down a bit more. 

I guess that oasis would be a good foam to stick the flowers into, but with so many little roses, i wonder how well it would stand up to being poked to shreds. I could see using a piece to secure the larger and longer stems and then filing in the space between with buttercream glue in there--so a combo of the both.
