I had to do a wedding cake this weekend. The bride gave me a color swatch and wanted the fondant to match. Kind of a nightmare... I hate coloring fondant bc it changed the consistency and I find it dries it out and looks like elephant skin and just doesn't behave. Makes me crazy actually! Plus it takes forever to color large amounts. (Took me 2 hours to color my fondant... I didn't have it all out for 2 hours, I took a bit at a time and colored it so it wouldn't be crazy dry.) Anyways, it hit me that it would probably be alot easier to just cover the cakes with white fondant and then airbrush it the color I want. Of course I thought of that at 10:00 at night, lol and didn't have the right color to airbrush with. I bought my airbrush at Christmas but haven't used it yet... Just been so busy and haven't taken the time to crack it out.
So my question to all of you is, do you prefer coloring your fondant or for more difficult, deep colors, do you airbrush your cakes? And if you have to airbrush a cake a solid color, do you have any tips?
Here is the cake I did... The fondant gave me sooo much grief. Way more than usual bc I had to custom color it. (I think I aged 10 years making it, lol)
