So, I am in the process of making a hunting themed cake for a party this weekend. I have sculpted a set of antlers out of fondant and air brushed color on them. Originally I inserted a dowel into the antler thinking that this would stabilize the antler once inserted into the cake. However, the problem I am running into is that the antlers are heavier than I anticipated and without enough time to start over I need a plan B on how to help stabilize them and keep them from falling over once inserted into the cake. Any ideas?

Your best bet is to re- make some using either gumpaste or Fondant with Tylose or CMC added to make the antlers stiffen. The issue I believe is not with the sticks stabilizing them but that they need to be hard to stay upright.

I did deer antlers on top of a groom's cake earlier this year.  My husband took a wired hanger, clipped and formed the shape of antlers then covered in a fondant/gumpaste mix.  Since no one was eating them, the wired clothes hanger was ok to use
