How to get this gold detail?!

Hi Guys!!

 

 I was asked to do a cake similar to this and was wondering if anyone knows how to get gold detailing like that? Any help would be much appreciated! THANKS A BUNCH!! :)

shimmer dust mixed with vodka or everclear

So do you think it's just buttercream piped with luster? To get the 3D effect? Thanks!

It's definitely not piped. It's molded fondant or gum paste or a mix of them. Mold the shapes, paint with gold dust mixed with vodka, than attach to the cake. Very simple to do.

Luster won't give you a real genuine gold look. You need gold highlighter powder, used in a similar way like luster, but it really looks like metal. I get mine from CK Products.

And there is no way to 'pipe' a gold, shiny colour like that.

In my Peggy book, she says to make your moulds/do your piping in yellow/lemon as the base colour then once dry/hard paint over with your shimmer/lustre and spirit solution. This does look like a good way of getting the antique look. However, I agree with AZ Couture, for a really effective end product, you are prob best investing in the paint x
