AOkay, I don't have time to order and rice (wafer) paper online... Can't find some anywhere! Lol... Would the rice paper that people make spring rolls with in the Asian isle do the same thing to paint an image on for my cake?

No, they are totally different. The spring roll sort is actually made with rice, and is very hard until it gets moisture on it, then instantly goes soft and clingy. You wouldn't be able to paint onto it.

Wafer paper is not rice at all, never could figure out why it gets called rice paper, it's actually made with potato starch.

What are you trying to do?

AGotcha! Glad you told me that! I am trying to paint this image on wafer paper to put in a birthday cake.

But I can't find wafer paper anywhere... I'm going to try Michaels tomorrow. This cake is due on friday so I don't have time to order anything. I didn't want to just print the image cause that seems kind if boring. I wanted it to pop

AMaybe I should scrap the wafer paper and try a frozen buttercream transfer?

Maybe you can do an edible image of it and then paint over it with lightly colored piping gel? Paint blue gel over the blue parts, yellow gel over the yellow parts, etc. That way you could see thru the gel and it would pop and not be as boring as a regular edible image.

By the way, I have never done this but it sounds like a good idea.

AYou can paint onto a fondant or gum paste plaque. Let it dry out a bit before you start painting.

I've painted on rice paper from the asian markets for a cake before.  I didn't dilute my colors and added some sparkle with pearl dust (I added a little bit of extracts but not a lot). I attached it with crisco on a fondant covered cake.  lemmie see if I can attach the image

Unbirthday cake for a friend. Pages are hand painted on rice paper attached with crisco.

There we go

:) worked out well for me.

AHi, i know this post is quite old but im wondering if you could help me. I need to make a car cake which has loads of sponsor stickers on it and i was going to paint them on rice paper then stick them to the car. A couple of questions, do they last on the cake or will i need to stick them on last minute? I dont want them to melt in too mich and become a big mess. Also what brand of rice paper do i need or will it not matter?
