3D Opi Nail Polish - Can Somebody Help Please!!!
Decorating By AngesCakes Updated 4 Aug 2013 , 10:58pm by AngesCakes
I need to make a large upright 3D cake of an OPI Nail Polish bottle but I'm not sure where to start.
Firstly, what kind of pans should I use?
I was thinking maybe for the bottle I could use 3 round pans and stack the cakes, then carve it to make the shape of the bottle. And the lid, should I make a large rectangle cake and cut 4 smaller rounds and stack them??
Does any of this sound right or am I completely off track?
Also the label is really driving me nuts, as I'm not good at freehand writing. I'd love to get an edible image but how do I match the colour of the bottle to to background of the image? Is there such a thing as transparent background images?
Any suggestions would be so greatly appreciated!!
Sounds like a good plan to start with. I just looked at a photo of the bottle and actually the handle is about as tall as the bottle (I'm including the thick glass bottom of it), so you'll need as much cake at the bottom as at the top. Maybe getting an actual bottle of the stuff would help so you can scale up and get the sizing right.
I would definitely build this on a board with a centre pole. Don't forget to use support every 4 inches tall too.
How big do you have to make it?
For the letters, personally I would print an edible image and cut the letters with an exacto knife.
You'll also need to think how you are going to get the high gloss finish on the bottle.
I made one once...I used 3-6" for the bottom and 3-3" for the top. Now OPI is a little different, but this gives you an idea of where to start. You can see the result using those size cakes. For OPI I would do 2-3" and 1-4" for the top. For the base I would use the 3-6's and just do some carving. Hope that helps. Oh...and put a board and support in between the top and base.
Thank you both for your advice.
So glad I asked for help, would you believe I didn't even think of supports...duhh!! The size I was thinking of doing was about a 6 inch round at the bottom so your pan sizes sound good. Also great tip to cut out the letters with an exacto knife. Thank you again!!!
