Hi everyone! This past week has been a whirlwind. With two weddings just a few days apart we are just exhausted! Here is a photo of the cake table of this past one:

Hey I get to post my birthday cake again.  This is my cake for this week.  I airbrushed in in greens and browns with the intention of putting bas relief flowers on the sides but then ran out of steam.  I'm very good at ending up with cakes that look nothing like the original intention.  I really did like it though.

Cat, I think your cake is overwhelmed by the decorations surrounding it.  Such a shame.

Cat, very nice! I can't wait to see the others.

Cazza, that is really pretty and the base you used for the photo is just perfect.

It is a light week for me. Two sheet cakes, one a SpongeBob themed and the other for a swimming party.  I started not to take the Spongebob order because the customer wanted an exact replica of a Decopac/grocery store cake.  She said her daughter wanted a normal looking grocery store cake, and I really wasn't enthusiastic about airbrushing a cake and putting plastic toppers on but something told me to do it. I had a Decopac account, I needed a few other things, so I ordered the kit.  I know sometimes kids with food allergies just want to be normal but this was an extra special case. As it turns out the 8-year old was celebrating a truly beautiful event, a second chance at life.  Her family calls it her "re-birthday" celebration to mark the day she got a heart transplant. Boy am I glad I went ahead and took the order, I would have felt so bad if I didn't.

I'll post the swimming pool cake tomorrow when it's complete.

Hello all, I am super busy this week.  I have my first ever 5 tierred cake.  for a quinceanera.  And while the design is nothing original its time consuming. Also my niece is here from Jersey and we are having a big family get together.  We haven't seen her in over 12 years so the whole family is excited to say the least. Guess who's doing the cooking.  lol  My fave thing to do.

Last week was busy as well.  And it gets busier, especially since I started this group thing on fb.  Just today I got 2 more orders off the group.  Loving it.  I'm now looking for another part-timer to help out.

Cazza, Happy Birthday.  you did a great job on that cake.  I just love it, flower and color

Cat, Very nice wedding cake.  Feel better. Wish I could go to bed

tdovewings, nice sponge bob.   I haven't done one in ever so long.

Back to the drawing board my friends.  Will post a pic tomorrow.

Cat, your cake is adorable! Cazza, love, love, love your cake!

I made this cake as a last minute favor for a friend. She's having her son's christening today and she needed a cake to serve 15-20 people done in blue buttercream. This is my first ruffle cake. Overall, it was a fun cake to do!

That brings tears to my eyes!!! You did a great job on it!

I love seeing all the cakes. I had a pretty light week, a little mustache smash cake for a first bday photo shoot and a bridal shower cake.

Little 4" smash cake. This tiny cake just makes me smile!Bridal shower cake that mimics a wedding dress and bouquet. Gumpaste roses and fondant ruffles.

When I see them side-by-side like that ^^^ it looks like a bride and groom! HAHA!!

Good morning everyone! I do feel a bit better...I think it's all allergies which suck but, well, they are not fatal! LOL!

Cazza...love your cake and I think it's better that it didn't end up being busier than it is. It's lovely. Hope you have a very happy birthday.

Ginn...can't wait to see pics. The wonderful thing about coming in this morning was seeing the photos! Good luck with the 5 tier..nerve wracking but impressive to look at!!

Boyka...LOVE the yin yang cake! Too cool!!! And I'm dying to know what the second one was trimmed with...are those almonds?...looks divine!

OTcakes...that little cake is just so cute! Frilly!

Sixinarow...love the Bridal shower cake. I must admit I don't really "get" the whole mustache craze but I like how you kept it simple.

Marian...what was the pineapple made out of? Is that just frosting? Totally fun cake...bet she loved it. And the speaking of fun...that little tiger cake is a hoot!

I am off this week with the exception of one small wedding cake. The couple is getting married now before the Groom deploys for a year and then doing the big wedding/reception when he comes home. He's going to the back lines so while they are worried enough to get married before he leaves they are going ahead with the big wedding plans for next year too. I am, happily, getting both cakes. But this one is only a one tier. Sometimes, for wedding cakes, that can be a challenge. I'm hoping this one turns out "bridal" enough. It has a mass of little white flowers with pearl centers (as if the last two cakes I did didn't have enough pearls<G>) and a little bling from a broach that belongs to her grandmother so I'm hoping it turns out well. I'll share with all of you Friday!

ACat the pineapple was made using the mini wonder mold pan. I made pineapple cake and cut one in half. Also I added pineapple juice to buttercream frosting so the whole cake tasted like pineapple and she was thrilled with the cake. Glad your feeling better. And thanks for starting this thread I look forward to it every Friday. :)

AI wanted to scream last night while finishing this cake. Glad I priced it the way I did, but next time will be more!

So of you may recall me asking I anyone knew how to make seersucker. I figured it out! Labor InTenseiVe!

I am very proud of the final result.

AI used an extruder to roll out each line. I lined them on a piece of thin plastic making them nice & straight. I then used a real piece o seersucker material & my fondant smoother.

Did I mention labor inTensive! 5 hours of lines.

Cazza, how did I miss that Happy Birthday!

DeliciousDesserts, absolutely, positively stunning! Five hours, Whoa! My eyes would be crossed forever.

OT, what a gorgeous cake.

I don't understand the mustache thing either, but I love your cakes sixinarow.

The flat tops are new for me since I got my Agbay. I use it on everything, I love, love, love Agbay! So easy and I don't even need to chill my cakes before torting. It saves me a lot of time, strike that! It gives me even more incentive to delay what I know I need to do. I use to bake all my cakes a day early so they can chill before leveling and torting, now I do way more in one day than I should. But I still love the Agbay.

Here's the other cake I did. Another 1/3 sheet cake inspired by the party invitations.

Next week will be hard, I am just going to try so hard not to procrastinate. I need to make a Princess Leia out of fondant. There is also another cake that requires figure sculpting. I haven't done it in a couple of years. I took classes a while back, but whenever I quote a price they decide to go 2D or plastic, so I haven't done much outside of the class and homework for the class. I hope I remember how to do this. wish me luck!

I was asked to make something for a friend, like I have never done before.  When she sent me a picture from Pintrest, I didn't even know what it was she was wanting me to make.  haha  This is a Cthulhu.

I covered the cake in MMF and made the tentacles with MMF and Tylose added.  I used the SPS for the first time and I loved it.  I did have a problem with my bottom layer not being tall enough, so I had a large gap. I learned from that experience and plan to change things to make my next cake more successful with the SPS system.

This is my Cthulhu cake. The cake is covered in MMF. The tentacles are MMF with Tylose powder added.

My top border is so large because I had a gap to fill. I learned from that and I am excited about using the SPS system on another cake later this month.

Only one cake this week for my nephews birthday party. My sister helped with this so some of the piping is a bit light. She's still learning lol.

*

We also did baseball cookies and cake pops and we had my nieces do chocolate dipped pretzels so they could help out.

*

The girls (8 and 11) helped out with making the MMF and coloring it too. Got some great pictures of my youngest niece covered in powdered sugar lol.

DD.  It is just awesome.

Sadly I didn't take a pic of the cake.  I had to deliver it and could not set it up.  And I don't think I would have liked it anyway.  It turned out little bit to gawky for my taste.  The coloring was off - Originally the customer brought me a sample of fabric from the young ladies dress.  Days later she sends me a pic of another dress.  they changed their mind and changed the dress.  The coloring looked similar in color but when I arrived, the young lady was dressed and the color was way.... off.

Sigh.

The sizes of the cake didn't fit right.  Because of the design I should have made deeper tiers.

I think I'm overbooking and getting too tired out by the time I'm getting close to finishing a cake.  Been looking for help but not finding any.  Sigh!!

ADark chocolate, that is just awesome! Love those tentacles.

Lovebug, very kewl! I'm a braves fan, but otherwise that cake is outta the park!

Auntginn, I've had cakes that I just didn't like. They don't make the website. I really hate wen that happens. Now, I'm sure you're being far more critical than any of us would be.

When I delivered that tux cake, I saw the groomsmen & my heart sank. The color was off & the toe was wrong. It matched the photo but not them. So what?! They love it.

I bet those bridesmaids are glad they don't match the cake! Who wants to be compared to the gorgeous cake all night?!

Thank you, DD.  One of the teenage boys from the party told me today, he wouldn't eat a tentacle because it looked to real. haha  It was MMF, so it was edible.

Your cake is awesome!  The skill and expertise you have is amazing.
