I have researched the site and found that if I want to make a swag for a wedding cake, I need to use a 50/50 mix of fondant and gumpaste. If I'm not assembling the cake until I get to the venue (3 tier stacked), should I wait until I get there to roll out the fondant/gumpaste and then make the swag and apply it. Or could I drape it all on the night before? I'm not sure if the fondant/gumpaste gets hard, or when exactly you're supposed to put it on the cake. I'm icing it in Buttercream if that makes a difference in answering. Thank you :)  Oh and should I attach it with a thicker/royal icing?

I only bake cakes as a hobby, but in my opinion if you are icing the cake with buttercream you may have a problem.  I cannot see the draped fondant/gumpaste sticking correctly to a buttercream iced cake.  If the cake was iced in buttercream and then covered in fondant the draping would have something to stick to.  Buttercream is soft and although it will crust, it will not be hard enough to hold up a draped fondant swag.  I definitely could be wrong and if I am I would love to hear from other members on this method.
