Did not know that it NEVER freakin' dries.  I've been waiting a week for my gp tiara to harden and it is just as soft today as it was a week ago.  

I wish I had known.  

Now I'm going to have to get to Michaels or wherever and buy some Wiltons since I hear it dries fast and hard.  Just peed I'll have to do this over again.  

Bummer, I've never had problems with Bakels gumpaste not drying. I have problems with humidity here and sometimes it takes longer because of that.

I think the Wilton does dry faster, but I can roll the Bakels out thinner.

I always had problems with bakels also, not drying fast, etc. I love premade Wilton or Nick Lodge homemade recipe. I sometimes mix the two.

Yep Bakels is the WORST.  I'm in Alaska with very low to no humidity and it won't dry here either.

AYes, Bakels takes weeks to dry. I am in a dry climate and I have petals waiting to dry. I even added tylose to the paste and that didn't help much. The strange thing is that when I first started using it about three years ago it was SOOO dry. It would start drying as you were rolling out. They must have changed it.

AI bit the bullet and put it in the oven at 170 and then shut it off. It's sitting in the hot oven right now and hopefully it will dry it out a bit. I'll keep you all posted on what happens. At this point it doesn't matter because the birthday is in nine days and I can't paint it until dry. If it doesn't work I guess I have to go get some new stuff but I hate wasting almost an entire package of gumpaste.

FYI, i put it in the oven at 170 for a few and then turned it off leaving the tiara in.  Honestly, it's gotten way harder.  I've done this a few times now.  Make sure that you keep the tiara, if that's what you're doing, on the bottle/can.  It does get soft in the oven.  

This thing is going to be salvagable!!!

Many years ago I went to a cake convention in Colorado (I live in Calif.) Paid $150.00 just for this gum paste flower class. This would be my first time using G.P.  Bought the Bakels G.P at my local cake shop in CA. I had a hard time with the paste from the beginning, but since I was a "newbie" I didn't know the difference, but noticed  my flowers looked different than the other students. The flowers were limp and not holding up. The next day when I brought them to class to continue, they were lifeless. Wasted my time, $ and was so upset with the hold thing.   When I got home I went to the cake shop where I purchased the paste and told them my problem.  They called Bakels and their reply was for me to purchase some gum T. and add it to the gum paste. @#%^*!.   If my hands could had reached through the phone, someone on the other end would have had a black eye or bloody nose.   Got on the phone and told them they should reimburse me not only for my class but my air fare and all.  Also informed them I was going to spread the word around the club (which is world wide) not to purchase Bakels G. P.  Kept the flowers just to see how long it would take for them to harden...a year later they were still soft and in the trash !  Still burns me up thinking about it all~
