Hi everyone!

Starting this off a bit earlier than normal tonight just because it's kinda busy tonight. I'm taking a break from an Indian inspired birthday cake to have dinner and then I'm back at it again! It's not due till Sunday afternoon but it has a lot of hand painting so I have to pipe the royal icing and let it totally dry up before I can paint it gold. I have to work in the office tomorrow so I won't have a lot of time tomorrow to work on it, if any at all, so that means tonight!

Happy news here...for those who have been around for awhile you know that I travel. Well, I started out my adult life as a nature/wildlife photographer and got into the party planning and cakes when our son was born 12 years ago. Well, another photog friend sold some of her photos to a travel website and thought I might want to do the same so she encouraged me to start a travel blog...which I did. Well, the tour company we travel with found the blog and wanted me to submit a blog for publication... and I got it!! I'll be featured at the end of August! Whoo Hoo!

The other happy news is why I'm running so late in getting this cake done tonight. My niece called and she and her girlfriend just got engaged (been together for 11 years) and they are getting married on the 31st before their big move to Texas (grad school)!! So we ended up going to their house and talking wedding all afternoon! Now I'm making up for it<G>

Hope everyone is having a wonderful evening! Hope to see lots of photos tonight whenever I can drop back in and take a break!

Oh wow, Cat, I bet that's going to be beautiful! Can't wait to see it! :)

I had 3 this week, which is really busy for me, I don't know how y'all do it on a regular basis -- I'm exhausted!!

I'll post pictures tomorrow, I can't look at them anymore tonight, if I do, I'm going to want to change something or fix something so I need to just walk away!!

Can't wait to see pictures of every ones' creations!

yeah, wearing so many hats I can really only do one wedding cake or 3 celebration cakes a week before it's just too much for me. So far I have everything made for the cake and need to start covering it soon. I always find it hard to get going after dinner but I have to make myself get back to it!

Cat, congratulations on your blog! And your niece's engagement!

Sixinarow, I rarely do more than a cake every 2 weeks icon_biggrin.gif, never mind several a week!

Delicious, so adorable! I'd really like to do more baby showers. The few I've done, I've really enjoyed.

I booked 2 wedding cakes, for 1 couple! I met with a bride several weeks ago and didn't hear back from her. She called me yesterday to see if I was still available for her wedding date. I was. She then told me they just found out she's pregnant and even though they'll have their big wedding in December as planned, they're really getting married on the 28th (of July!) and can I make a little cake for that? Well, of course I could!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              I finished the cake for the Wizard of Oz inspired photo shoot I was asked to participate in. This picture was taken before it was quite finished. I've added more leaves and given the purple a coat of corn syrup/vodka to give it a little shine and to smooth out the color a bit. I had trouble with the adhesive I used for the stems and leaves dripping a little and leaving some discoloration. I'll have better pictures later. I can't decide if I like it or not.

Cat Congratulations! How exciting!

I've been working on these 90 Thomas the Train cookies for party favors.  I have the theme song for that show stuck in my head, it is haunting me. After this project, I never want to see this Thomas the Train character again.

My bad decision was to go belly dancing with some of my stay at home mommy friends tonight. Thankfully, I finished all the piping on the cookies before dancing, but my arms are so tired and sore now.  I need to make a cupcake cake in the same theme, and ~75 cupcakes. I'm tired to the bone!

It's been a week, with these cookies and the heat.  About half were ruined because I over beat my royal icing.  I didn't have time to make them over so I had the grand idea of making more royal icing and piping over the bad royal icing. Much to my surprise it worked!

Off to make icing and do my cupcake cake and cupcakes.

DD!! LOVE the logo on the onesie..I know more than one Mama who would love that cake...I'm a baseball freak so you know I totally adore it!

Elcee! SOOOO elegant! I love the poppies SO much!

Tdove...yeah, the heat won with me tonight. I can't get anything to set up. I'll try again in the morning. SIGH. Over a hundred today so I'll have to get up really really early to get going before the heat kicks in again tomorrow. But I'm done tonight trying to get the royal to set up enough and then having to clean it all up again because it didn't. UGH.

Such great work from all of you :) No cakes or baking of any kind here we have been in the middle of a heat wave and my asthmatic self has been staying in an air conditioned room just to be able to breathe lol.  Next weekend is my nephews 13th birthday party.  I'll be making him a 4 tier cake (biggest tier is a dummy) some cookies, cake pops and covered strawberries.  Not sure when I should start putting these all together but I'm really looking forward to it all. It's Baseball themed with a Red Sox cake. So excited as that's my team too!

Hello everyone,

I'm here a little late because of my order.  I don't have any cakes this week, good thing too because it was a hard last weekend.  A cake everyday from Friday to Monday.  I was challenged by the the humidity and the heat.  I'm glad it has passed, I'm still waiting for the pics from the eiffel tower which turned out better than I expected.  I was so scared with the weather.  I have dzs and dzs of empanadas (mexican for turnovers)

Another thing I did this week, I know so many cakers around me but strange that Los Angeles does not have a cake club.  Don't know if one ever existed but the closest one is in Costa Mesa.  So I started an online group using fb.  It is really taking off, So any Angelenos here can join us.  Called Los Angeles Sugar Artist.  Maybe in the future it will pick up and have an official cake club.

I heard that Vegas is a wash out.  Flooding so I feel for anyone who went to Cake Camp this weekend.  But they're probably having a good time anyway.

Congratulations Cat!

DD the cake is adorable!

tdovewings your cookies are beautiful.  I could never do that, they would be a mess.

Hi, nothing for me for a few weeks as it was all getting a bit too much.  Just taking time to enjoy the children's summer holiday.  We're having a heatwave (up to 25C in Scotland) so it's been a lot of trips to the beach for us!

My next project will be attempting to tackle a fighter jet cake for my son's 8th birthday in August.  I'll be doing it while on holiday with my in-laws so really not sure how it will turn out...

Ok, here are mine. I was trying to wait to take pics in better light, but it's raining this morning, so I went ahead.

The gray/magenta/turquoise was a pain in the rear. I had major issues with the fondant and couldn't figure out how to get polka dots in 3 different colors to not look super busy.

The blue baby shower is for a friend of mine, the first time I tried quilting..could've done a better job, I broke through the fondant in a couple places.

The white is my favorite. It's actually for a first birthday (I forgot to take a picture of the smash cake) but it was inspired by a picture of a wedding cake that the client sent me. I'm lovin' this one. icon_smile.gif

Gumpaste "fantasy" peonies on gray fondant with white, turquoise and magenta polka dots.

Gumpaste roses, piped border, quilted top tier.

Modeling chocolate rope, pearls and gumpaste flower

Ginn, I can't wait to see your Eiffel Tower cake! I, obviously, being in CA, know your pain with the heat.

Six, I love all of the cakes but the last one, being a beach baby myself, is my favorite! LOVE the rope!

Ducky...that video was great! I love how the first reaction from people is to touch it...kids usually can't help themselves and I cracked up when he put his hands in his pockets so he wouldn't touch it! LOL! Amazing cake too!

I will post photos of mine when I get it delivered tomorrow!

Sixinarow, all those cakes are just beautiful. How in the world did you get the rope to stay on the side of the cake?

OTCakes, very lovely!  Nice job with the box top too, those are tricky!

Ducky, nice cake, I love the rope!

Here's the rest of my Thomas the Train party. These parents went all out for this party, they invited our family, and we stayed. It was such a big order, I didn't take any others this week.  All in all, 90 cookies, 36 cupcakes for the cupcake cake, and 50 cupcakes on a cupcake tower. The kids had a blast, it is rare to get to see the reaction from the kids when they see their cake. This little boy was thrilled with his cake, he played with the cake like it was a train table, just rolling his toy trains around the track on the cake.

I was skeptical to make a cupcake cake at first, particularly since CakeWrecks make fun of them so much. But it was really fun to make. I'm glad I made it, seeing the kid enjoy his cake erased all the bad feeling I had about making a cupcake cake.

Have a good week ya'll. I'm going to catch up on my sleep this week!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to share the completed birthday cake. I actually had to scrape off all of the royal that wouldn't dry the other night, make a new batch of royal and started it all over again. But I'm quite happy with it so it was worth the time if not the hand cramping! LOL!
