A@ Batterupcake. Hello my friend, first i want to say congratulations on working on your own design!!!! Im happy for you and proud of you. 2 nd i can't aford the agbay. I am pinching pennies majorly, so i welcome new things and pray it's affordable lol I'll buy one of your designs when you are done. For me i need what others have mentioned but also something that feels good to the hand and not rough or awkward. Also i am in desperate need of a turntable and a larger cake stand so we need to talk again girl. Lol. I love what you are doing and i wish you all the best. Keep me posted please
Oh I am saving my penny's for a Sarah stand! They are very popular now.
Also, do a search for wooden cake stand. There are so many different styles. Specifically, I am in search of 3 different ones. I can email you some photos. Send me your email.
What makes them popular, delicious? They all look the same to me? What sizes are needed?
AThe latest trend is pedestal cakes. That trend & Pinterest made them popular.
I personally prefer 14" & 18". I can fit most cakes on those. I also like 12" & 16".

$120 for a 12" cake stand? Do people actually pay that much for a cake stand? What are they made of, I couldn't find a description.

Of course they do. Read what they are capable of doing, they're not the dainty little stands from Pier One that you can only put a small two tier on. You can put a full sized, heavy wedding cake on these. Worth every penny.
I got a pink one for Christmas, every time I rent it out I spend the whole time imagining horrible things happening to it, it's so stressful. I love that silly thing, lol.
Trying to talk the hubby into the natural wood square one for my birthday :)
I can actually stand on it!
Well my new design will be ready for pickup tomorrow. I'm really excited to see how well (if) it works!
SO I got prototype #1 back and it needs a few minor tweaks. I got my metal guy coming by tomorrow to go over the new plans. Prototype 2 should be ready next week. As for the cake stands, I have some in production right now. I can't wait to see the finished products and how well they sell! Of course as with my cakes the hardest part will be setting a price. I see now why Sara's Stands are costly. I am sure I can come in under their price..now to see how they stand up under weight testing.

Can't wait to see the stands!!!!
I just texted for an update. Haven't heard back yet...The first one he is doing is a 14" natural wood square. then he is starting on some 13" rounds. I know 13 is an odd size but I was able to get ahold of some bamboo that was already cut.
Ugghhh...just heard back from him and he wasn't happy with how the mahogony top piece turned out so he is starting from scratch. Good thing to know he is concerned with quality. I told him they had to be perfectly balanced and weight bearing. I thought about standing on one but after seeing how much weight similiar cake stands hold I realized I may not be the best one to crush...err....I mean stand on one. LMAO I may mostly just be talking to myself in this thread but I am excited.

Well, you can stand on a Sarah's Stand, sooooooo.....yeah.
AI invested in about 2 of those Sarah's Stands. But I don't rent them out! Since I've graduated college in may and have gotten super serious about business, i use them for my professional pictures only.
ABut I'm always excited about new things and I look forward to seeing his these turn out!! Can't wait. I was super impressed with the leveler

I charge $30 for a rental fee, plus a deposit to cover the full cost in case I don't get it back or it is damaged in any way. It paid for itself pretty quickly, that is how I justify buying them, lol.

Well this is the spindle portion of the first cake stand. It will be attached to the top and a wider bottom base with mortising joints. Feedback on the design please. He is going to make me 3 different designs.

Like you already mentioned, the bottom needs to be wider. It's pretty but more on the rustic side than what I thought you were going to do. Hard to tell without a top. in the right direction - For Sure
The picture is soooo tiny, but it looks very nice! I want a jet black one! And a soft baby pink. And a ocean blue. And polka dots!
AI think it's lovely! I've been looking for someone local to help me with custom stands, they seem really excited at first but when it comes to actually preparing a piece that is also food safe they lose interest, my fiance can do some things for me but he works a lot. Wish I'd paid more attention in wood shop ;)
I'm glad this worked out for you!

Great! I want black and white for sure.

AI love the design! Like someone said it is a bit more rustic, but I am liking that. I think a black one would amazing!
